    • RE: Parent and examination

The old uncle is very ill but they refused to call their daughter because they did not want disturb their grandchildren who are having their examination now. I think he does not want to die in the big house which may bring bad luck to their daughter. The old aunty has to clean and feed him. Their daughter has a maid and I do not understand why their daughter is so pamper her maid and refuse to let her to take care her old parent. Life change. Maid is more important than parent. This is not easy to get a good maid. So need pamper. If not, who clean the big house.!!!.

    • RE: Parent and examination

The HDB is a dumping ground for unwanted things from the big house. Parent keeps everything belong to their children or they are scare to be scolded for throwing away those things. For your information, throwing things from landed property is not easy and costly. For HDB, we can request Town council to help to dispose junks - FOC. My point is that should a civil servant show a good example to us. I understand that old folks are taking good care by government but should we take advantage over it.

    • RE: Parent and examination

I met my neighbour, very old couple yesterday. According to them, they were chased away by their daughter who stay in a big house in Bukit Timah. The reason is that both of her kids are having examination this month. Currently the old couple is staying in an HDB which the condition is worst than the foreign work dormitory. There's load of junk inside the HDB. I believe that they are going to stay there forever with the above valid reason which I cannot believe this happen in Singapore. The old couple is trying to get grant from government but is not successful because their daughter is a highly paid law lecturer in NUS. Poor old couple. Sometime I saw them as a karung guni. :? what is wrong here. I know how they feel but no choice, this is the life. Parent has to suffer for their children.

    • RE: Travel: China - Suzhou

The stop near to the Science center and stadium. Another side of Shanghai. Too bad, I was retrenched last month from suzhou. if not, I can host you and hubby. Now, I am still jobless. Anyway, the shops are around the stadium. Once you are out from the train, you can see those shops. They sell clothes, bag, etc… note: all are "branded".

For Zhou Zhuang tour, you need 1 day as this is far from suzhou. This is a water valley…houses near the river. For suzhou, those places are near to each others, you can go by yourself by taxi. except the silk factory… if you want to buy silk. Please take note that the tour include meal - local meal if you like it, ha ha. From Shanghai to suzhou, you can take a speed train which take only 1-2 hrs. In shanghai, shop at stadium MRT stop… bargain bargain …

I worked in Suzhou for one year. If you need my help, please let me know. How old are your kids? Most of kids do not enjoy the sight seeing in China - bored. In Shanghai, you can shop at the statium with a lot of bargaining… 70% down. if you enjoy it. Science center is worth to visit.

    • RE: A boy who does not treat his work seriously.

Schools counselling service will make it worst. His friends will laugh at him for counselling. My kid had gone through the counselling. The counsellor is inexperience. The only thing they did is to complain it to the parent. After all, the parent have to solve it themselves. Counselling service is still very young in Singapore. To me, those counsellor do not work with "their heart", in short, "no competent"…

Sometime a good friend may change him. This is a growing up stage. Nowaday, parent have to behave like friends in order to let our kids to listen to us. This is due to the education system here. There is no teaching about discipline, obedience, etc… The whole education system is focus on how to bring up our children to meet "their needs’’ and then work for them…

My friend had the same problem but he resolved it by using China way. He told his son that he disowned him. His son was left outside the house for a while without daddy and mummy. After this punishment, his son "WAKE UP"… Cautious: Do it with care!!
