    • RE: Ds is good at nothing

      Hi Xueyan!

I understand your frustration.. Just want to share a story, maybe it will make you feel better šŸ˜„ . Sorry if its too long šŸ˜“
A few years ago we lived overseas because of hubby's posting. Dd was in p3 when we moved her to an international school there. On last day of the school year, dd's teacher (a lovely canadian lady), invited all the parents to the classroom for a farewell party. She said she was soo proud of all her students and so she will give each one of them an award. Coming from singapore, i thought it will be academic award, but turned out her awards (she made & printed herself) are really unique. One boy got 'funny' award because he always tells jokes and make his friends and teacher laugh šŸ˜‚ . My daughter got the '101% award' because she always put 101% effort in whatever she did :rahrah: . Dd's friend got 'most beautiful smile' award because according to her teacher she always has this big smile every morning whenever she comes to school & it awlays brightens the teacher's day & put her in a good mood for the rest of the day. There were award for best enquirer because the boy always asks good questions, award for best progress for a boy who didnt understand multiplications at the beginning of the year and managed to memorized times table by year end, 'potential scientist' award for a boy who knows a lot about science from books he reads, 'shakespeare' award for boy who writes poems very well, etc.
I wish you could see the students faces. They were all smiling & proud of their achievements even if it has nothing to do with academic. In that short time their teacher managed to boost their confidence by basically saying that each of them is special in their own way. Till this day, whenever my daughter is lazy to do her school work, i will remind her of her 101% award & tell her that her mummy and her teacher believe she will always put 101% effort in everything she does. And usually she will pick up the pencil & starts working :rahrah:
Dont lose hope! Your boy is also special! Maths, science, english, mother tounge, cca are not the only measure of self worth.
