    • RE: Tuition centers should not force parents to accept digital learning at full fees.

      Dear Parent and Tutors,

As a father of 4 and being in the IT industry for 30 over years, my perspective is the current industry adoption of a merely a web conferencing tool such as Zoom or Google is inadequate. In essence, web conferencing is not the equivalent to the MOE’s Student Learning Space (SLS) nor the Blackbox (adopted by tertiary institutions in Singapore) which is a learning management system.

With the adoption of adoption of a learning management system, online learning can remove the many constraints of a traditional classroom. In fact, online learning can be better than a traditional classroom learning given the vast benefits of digital such as personalised learning, outcome based learning, self-regulated learning, interactive content learning and artificial embedded learning.

In the longer term, as has been encouraged by the Singapore government, tutors and tuition centres should disrupt their business model by going digital and reap the benefits of online learning. The new normal will entail the tuition industry to build a presence digitally and to adopt learning management system that will differentiate their teaching capabilities. Then the full fee is not an issue - in fact parent like myself will be more than willing as our children are well cared for.

      Thank you.
