RE: 2019 P1 Registration Exercise for 2020 In-take
Hi,
I have no kid enrolling this year but I stay within 1km of Northland Primary and have seen lots of new BTOs sprouting in this area within these 5 years. I think there is no chance if you are >1km. Even < 1km also challenging due to the large number of people staying here. If I recall correctly last year phase 2C only about about 30% of <1km applicants got in.SK_SG\" post_id=\"1920294\" time=\"1563335857\" user_id=\"171281:
Any advice for SC kid 1-2 km for phase 2C in Northland Primary? Is there a chance or should we opt for safer options.

RE: 2020 P1 Registration Exercise for 2021 In-take
Chongfu's parent volunteer application is now open, until 31 Oct 2018.
Link to the application form: http://chongfu.moe.edu.sg/wp-content/uploads/2018/08/Parent-Volunteer_Application-form_2018.pdf
Download and complete it and either snail mail to the school or scan and email it back. Selection process is quite competitive so all the best! -
RE: 2019 P1 Registration Exercise for 2020 In-take
Hi petrinayim,
Firstly, if your boy is only 4 this year, I think you are in the wrong thread haha.
My girl is starting p1 in chongfu next year. For pv in chongfu, need to clock in 80 hours of pv. The school admin will work with you to ensure that you will get to do 80 hours exactly, you wont overclock nor underclock. It is the only SHHK school that you can still pv with the school instead of with SHHK.
I am in the 1-2km range. Distance is not a criteria when they choose pvs. However, I have some pv mummies who stay >2km and they failed the ballot. Historically the balloting for pvs has been for the distance range >2km, hence if you can get into the pv programme, quite likely to get in the school. However, competition for PV slot is very tough. Only 20 pvs were selected from around 100 applications when I joined. Their criteria for choosing pv is not very clear also. Basically they want to achieve diversity of the students' background and hence a lot will depend on the cohort of parents when you apply.
If your boy is 4 this year, I believe you are in time to apply for the pv, which will open from Aug-Oct this year. Go to the school website and download the form. There is no interview required when I joined in 2016.
Hope this helps.petrinayim:

RE: 2018 P1 registration exercise for 2019 intake
zac's mum:
I don't know if they submitted their name for the waitlist, will advise her to do so if they haven't done so.
I know some schools welcome their most hardworking PVs to join the waitlist. The more hours contributed, higher on the waitlist. Chongfu does not exercise this discretion? -
RE: All About Weiqi and Chess
Anyone with kids who are learning weiqi now? I know a bit of weiqi, but I don’t know chess, so I recently bought a weiqi set to introduce it to my girl, she is 6. Currently teaching her the fundamentals to gauge her interest. Would like to know if there is any parent willing to share their children’s weiqi learning experience. Thanks!

Didnt get in Chongfu as we were above 2km and had to ballot.
Disappointed yes but it was a good gamble!
I had to choose between using my grassroots for any schools under the constituency (and cf does not fall into it) ir using the clan’s. We ended up going for cf using the clan although it was deftly high risk.
Oh well, Plan b!
All the best! My friend who did PV for chongfu and live >2km, also failed the ballot. They tried to call the school to ask about appeal but the school said no appeal. Did 80 hours of PV and didn't manage to get a spot.

RE: 2018 P1 registration exercise for 2019 intake
Tomoko:
btw, i wonder why Chongfu so popular within Yishun area?. everyone was like rush to register their children in this school. What made this school so popular? Because of the academic results or???
Compared to the other schools in Yishun, which may not have the parent volunteer scheme (hence the 0 intake during the phase), Chongfu has both the parent volunteer scheme and is also part of the Hokkien Huay Kuan, so it is has more registrations in Phase 2B compared to the rest. It is popular because yes, academically wise it has produced students with good PSLE results above the national average, and also because it is a more established school historically as it has been around since 1915. Being part of the SHHK, it is a govt-aided school. All the SHHK schools are known to be popular among parents.
If you are trying to get in via 2C, based on past data it has always been the case that only citizens staying within 1km has the chance to ballot. Hope this helps. -
RE: P1 Deferment
Hi all,
Sorry for bumping this old thread, I can’t seem to find any other thread on P1 deferment. I have a boy who was born on Jan 1 and I would like to know if anyone has experience in applying for deferment for a Jan 1 baby? Thank you very much.
