      There was this question but its gone now…dunno why.

      It’s

      There were 35 dresses made with either 4 red buttons each or 2 blue buttons each.
      The red used were 74 more than the blue.

      Find the no of red buttons used
      Find the no of blue button used.

      If all red will be 140, vs no blue at 0
      140 vs 0…difference is 140. )
      136 vs 2 …1 blue …difference is 134. ) Each jump is 6 difference in no.
      132 vs 4 …2 blue… Difference is 128 )

      So 140-74 = 66
      66/6 = 11

      There are 11 dresses with 22 blue buttons
      There are 35-11 = 24 dresses with 96 red buttons

      bigbang.:
      A fruit seller packed some oranges into 22 big carton boxes and 8 small carton boxes. There were 14 more oranges in a big carton box than in a small box. The ratio of number of oranges packed into big carton boxes to the number of oranges packed into small carton boxes was 3: 1. How many oranges did the fruit seller pack altogether.

      X is small carton

      22X + 22*14 : 8X. =. 3:1

      24X - 22X = 308

      X = 154, So big carton contain 168 each.

      Total packed is 22 * 168 plus 8 * 154 = 4928 oranges

      [quote="Beikiasu"]can somebody help me to solve these questions?

      2)At 10 am, a car was travelling from Town X to Town Y. At the same time, a lorry was travelling from Town Y to Town X along the same route. The car, travelling at speed of 25 km/h faster, passed the lorry 15 km from the midpoint between the 2 towns.
      (a) At what time did they pass each other?
      (b) The car took another 24 min to reach Town Y. What time would the lorry reach Town X?
      Car speed was 25 km/hr faster, he pass lorry at 15km from midpoint

      15/25* 60 = 36 minutes

      (A) They pass each other at 10.36 am

      Car took 24 more minutes to reach Y. So it took an hour to complete the journey
      It took 24 minutes to reach 15km before midpoint too. (Constant speed)
      So 60-24-24 = 12 minute, it took 12 minutes to cover 30 km.
      Car speed was 150 km / hr. distance between X and Y is 150 km
      Lorry speed was 150-25 = 125 km / hr.

      It took 1 hr and 12 minutes to reach X

      (B) … It reach town X at 11.12 am

      1) A farmer had some chickens and ducks in his farm.If 50 chickens were sold, the ratio of the number of chickens left to the number of duck would be 8:7. If 7 ducks were sold, the ratio of the number of chickens to the number of ducks left would be 10:7.
      (a) How many chickens were there in the farm?
      (b) When 42 ducks in the farm died, what percentage of the ducks were left?

      C - 50 : D is 8:7 …cross multiply

      8 * D = 7(C-50) = 7C-350

      8D = 7C - 350…(1)

      C : D-7 is 10:7…cross multiply

      7C = 10D - 70
      10D = 7C + 70 …(2)

      (2)-(1)

      2D = 420

      D = 210

      8D=7C-350
      1680 = 7C - 350
      7C = 1680+350 = 2030
      C = 2030/7 = 290
      Answer (a) There were 290 chicken in the farm.

      If 42 ducks died, the % of duck left is (210-42)/210*100
      Answer (b) is 80 % of duck left.

      Gary and Fenardez had a combined salary of $7600. After Gary spent 1/5 of his salary and Fenardez spent 2/3 of his salary, Gary had @2000 more than Fenardez. What was Fenardez's salary?

      :thankyou:

      5x + 3Y = 7600........(1)......* 4
      4x - Y = 2000........(2)......* 5

      20x + 12 Y = 30400....(3)
      20x - 5Y. = 10000....(4)

      (3) - (4)

      17Y = 20400
      Y = 1200

      Fernedaz salery was 3 Y = S$ 3600

      3) at first, shop A had 120kg of rice and shop B had 84kg of rice. after shop A sold twice the quantity of rice as shop B, the amount of rice that shop B had was twice that of shop A. how many kilograms of rice did shop A and shop B sell altogether?

      2 (120 - 2x ) = 84 - x

      240 - 4 x = 84 - x

      3x = 240-84

      X = 156/3 = 52

      They sold 156 kg altogether.

      2)last month, the ratio of oliver’s salary to patrick’s salary was 3:2. this month, patrick’s salary increased by $460 while oliver’s salary decreased by $230. as a result, the percentage of oliver’s salary became 50% of patrick’s salary. how much was their total salary last month?

      Last month
      Oliver : Patrick

      [][][] : [][]

      Next month

      [][][] - 230 : [][] + 460…is 1:2
      So

      2 ( [][][]-230) = [][] + 460
      [][][] [][][] -460 = [][] + 460

      [][][][][][][][] = 460 + 460 = 920
      [] = 920/ 8 = 115

      Last month was 5[] so
      5* 115 = S$ 575

      1) kelly has some $2 notes and $5 notes. the ratio of the value of the $2 notes to the value of the $5 notes is 3:5. there are 8 fewer $5 notes than $2 notes. what is the total value of all the $2 notes and $5 notes?

      a) $32 b) $64 c) $96 d) $128

      Value of S$2 notes : S$5 notes is 3:5
      Therefore it’s 6:10
      3* S$2 : 2S$5 notes = S$6 : S$10
      No of notes is 3:2…1 set there is difference of 1 lesser S$ 5 note
      There were 8 fewer S$5 notes.

      3:2 … * 8
      = 24 : 16
      24
      S$2 : 16* S$5
      There were S$48 : S$ 80 = S$ 128

      Jolyn:

      Ques: Which one of the following fractions is the largest?

      (1)1/3
      (2)2/5
      (3)4/9
      (4)5/12
      There are 24 and 48 as the denominator is it the same or diff?

      1/3 vs. 2/5 --> 5/15 vs. 6/15 --> (2)>(1)
      1/3 vs. 4/9 --> 3/9 vs. 4/9 --> (3)>(1)
      1/3 vs. 5/12 --> 4/12 vs. 5/12 --> (4)>(1)

      2/5 vs. 4/9 --> 18/45 vs. 20/45 --> (3)>(2)
      5/12 vs. 4/9 --> 15/36 vs. 16/36 --> (3)>(4)

      The largest fractions is (3) .

      Isn't it easier just compare (1) vs (2)......(2) is greater so use (2) vs (3)
      .....(3) is greater so (3) vs (4)..... (3) is greater.
      So (3) is the largest.

      As such :-

      (1) vs (2).... (2) larger
      (2) vs (3).... (3) larger
      (3) vs (4).....(3) larger..... So (3) is the largest. .....3 steps.

      Adele was given 1/3 of a pizza and Brian was given 1/4 of what was left. The reminader was then shared equally among 5 girls. What fraction of the whole pizza did each girl get?

      I calculated the answer to be 1/9 however it was not among the list of options given.

      Appreciate help on this question
      1/3 given to Adele balance 2/3
      1/4 of 2/3 given to Brian
      Therefore balance is 3/4 * 2/3 = 1/2 of whole
      1/2 shared by 5 girls, each gets 1/10 of the whole.

      Answer is 1/10
