Hi I also wanted to ask this question. I’m in year 2 (IP stream) in a dual-track school (IP and O level). We follow the GPA system so the minimum criteria for promotion from year 2 IP to year 3 IP is:

- Minimum GPA of 3 (average of B4/B-)
- English and math must get at least 2.5 GPA (C5/C+)

I really, really messed up my SA2/EOYs. I’m almost certain I’ll fail math, and since my previous math scores aren’t too good either, there’s a chance that I’ll miss the criteria for promotion. All the papers were extremely difficult, with perhaps English and second language being the exception. There’s a very high chance that I won’t be able to meet the IP promotion criteria.

The school states that "Students who are unable to meet the criteria will not be promoted to IP year 3 but will be laterally transferred to the O-level track". I really don’t know what will become of me if that happens. Does anyone have any information about the differences in the IP and O-level syllabus? In IP2, we do learn sec 4/A-level matter, thus this would be an advantage for me if I do get transferred to the O-level track. However, I do know that students in the O-level track have quite a different syllabus and I really want to use these holidays to catch up with the topics I’ve missed because I was in IP not the O-level track in year 1 and 2. If anyone has any information, please do share. All information is greatly appreciated.

Also, how to cope with this drastic change? It is quite difficult to cope after changing tracks right?

Bullies are always bad. Shouldn’t be tolerated at all.

Homeschooling is a good option. Critics may contend it isn’t, no need to listen to them. It gives you the opportunity to impart academic knowledge as well as benefits the holistic development of your child. At school he/she may not even be receiving 20% of the attention

Very competitive and to get in there are 3 selection rounds. But quite a good school academically and holistically!

Uniform shouldn’t be a consideration! Visit both schools to get a feel of the environment and learning methods

You can try adidas or jansport backpacks. I have both of them and they’re really good schoolbags because I can keep all my books and necessities inside and it doesn’t seem or feel bulky. And it’s definitely far from having a childish appearance like those popkidz backpacks at popular.

It’s really up to you and your DD but if you feel she may not be able to cope in the express stream, I’d recommend normal acad instead.
