      hi all,

i checked out all the schools ya all mentioned. except west coast mmi, let me share w u my experiences.

genesis, becos they r vvvv full they din bother to entertain me. thus i decided to jus drop by, talk to the ppl there, c e centre and if i really like it i hope they can still put me on waiting list n c hw. went dwn, im quite certain its the person in charge, lazy to put on her shoes n at least come out to the main gate to turn me away, started to shout at me frm the inside of the house and b4 i cld even tell her anything, her first words were "we are full alr!" RUDE… need i say more?

acekidz, i was checking out the n1 class for my dd last year. so happened it was toileting for the n1 class. lift opened, witnessed the form teacher a young slim indian lady being v impatient w kids helping them to use the toilets and changing diapers. i cant really rem, but think my hubby heard her saying some sarcasm to the kids too. later on found out that the same lady is gona be the form teacher for next year n1 class too… no way!

kindercorner at science park 2, the principal is nice… n tts abt it. i went dwn the noon aft nap time, all children in all class were running abt… i saw the timetable by right there shld be some classes gg on. when i asked the principal she told me something which i cant rem(1 year ago), my thoughts were BS. the music room, has at least 2 classes or 3 classes of children running ard toatlly chaotics. teacher "but dont look like teachers" were all sitting at a corner or the room chit chatting openly despite the principal presence and parent visiting the centre. another classroom, n1, only has 1 teacher at the time, was busying decorating the class w the art works leaving children doing whatever they want in the room. some kids even went out of the class n were roaming abt. principal no doubt seems nice but the situation at the centre only shws she lack of management skills and staff probably has no respect for her too. pls do not misinterpret, free time is a must for the child to grow social, etc. but the problem there is, according to the timetable the children shld be attending classes not free time. n its the entire centre tts like tt. not jus 1 or 2 classes! madness!! n biggest drawbacks… pls check out the teachers theres too, yes we shldnt judge a bookjby its cover…BUT if u seen those teachers there… u wont leave yr kid in their careu unless they are the only one left in spore.

btw, i dont call up centre b4 i visit, becos i dont wana see acts. thus from what i experienced i learnt not all the branded schools are what they preached.

      hi there,

im hunting for a gd school for my dd in serangoon area. think my dd the same age as yrs. born 08?

i have absolutely no idea abt all the preschools n kindy there. may i kw y u decided on the kinderland kindy in serangoon?

my dd w alr be 3 in jan 2012, so i thou it might b a gd investment for me to put her in a kindy first rather than searching for another sch later.

but for serangoon north area, i only heard gd recommendations of cambridge, schoolhouse by the garden and preschool by the park. i have yet checked out these schools as im not in favour of private property schools. bad air ventilation, bedroom turned classrooms, hazardous stairs, centres usually not so clean maybe becos outdoor area plus private property, entire compound usually does not hav ample sunlight always dark too. then again have to check out the centres then we w kw.

do u kw anything abt these centres or visited them yrself? im new to serangoon area. pls share any advice. thank you!

      hi little helper,

      thanks for yr reply! 😉

yup, if i w to continue mindchamps for my dd, u r right... toa payoh shld be the nearest. however i kw someone who pull her dd out frm there a few mths ago, cos she kept falling sick. apparently many parents there speculated that its due to the main air con ventilation gg ard the office bldg. then again its really too far frm serangoon north.

i went dwn ard serangoon north the other day, and really spotted the 3 preschools the parents mentioned wo even looking hard. the distance w be an advantage. think ard the area most likely we hav to settle in those houses preschool.

btw, is yr child in any of such houses preschool? whats yr experience? have u heard any gd or bad abt thoses 3 preschools?

yr advice is deeply appreciated. 😄

    • RE: [Serangoon/Paya Lebar] Preschools

      hi all,

my child is currently studying in mind champs preschool @ fusionopolis. in general, im pretty happy with the school. frm my dd academic improvement, centre cleanliness, classroom presentation, teaching materials, curriculum, teachers, food, blah blah... everything im really quite happy to see hw my dd has developed n learnt frm her school.

However, im moving frm west to serangoon north! total foreigner there. i read frm previous posts (in 2008), other parents have gd recommendations for school house by the garden, cambridge and preschool by the park. i have no idea where exactly are these preschools located (far frm where im gona resides) and are there any other gd preschools that any one who kws that area well will to be kind enough to fill me in pls?

my ideal preschool for dd will be, compassionate energetic teachers, gd management, kiasu curriculum, clean centre, ample teaching materials, classroom tt look like a classroom, once a mth excursion, outdoor play area, gd communication btwn teacher n parents, no tv, preferably no catering too, etc. above all else children there enjoys school n loves the teachers there too. wow!!!!hee.... :rahrah:

also as thoses postings i read were in 2008, are these schools i mentioned still any good?

frm what i gather, 2 of these schools, school house by the garden, preschool by the park, are houses(obviously...). Am i right to say such schools usually hav cleanliness problem because of the outdoor area? classrooms are set in typical bedroom? children always trip frm stairs? bad air ventilation?

when i was hunting a preschool for my dd then, my first priority was those schools in a private property kind becos i wanted my dd to be able to spend gd time doing outdoor activites. i have visited 2 of such schools in the west. totally turn off. the classrooms are actually typical bedrooms. its so not a conducive environment for the kids. and the stairs are gona be a hazardous for the children too. the air ventilation within the property is so bad too. the second one i visited, has no air con at all, classrooms too, the children look so sweaty and dirty..., best of all, the children watch tv while waiting for parents to come. the entire school looks kampong, seriously... despite such environment, charges for both schools cost more than 1k per mth too! :yikes:

my dd thoroughly enjoys school over at mind champs, my hubby n i wanted to register her in mindchamps again if possible but all centres are too far, also standard might differ. dd talks abt her school life and imaginery play school at home everyday too. i feel super bad to pull her out of mind champs. i also feel assured becos of the centre environment too. their food are cook by the aunties there too instead of catering. dear all pls help...
