Must the vaccines and the antiviral meds contradict each other? There is both vaccine and antiviral med to deal with h1N1, our last pandemic. Last I read, the anti-viral meds for covid should arrive about 2024. But meanwhile, we can’t be exposing ourselves to the virus blatantly, hence the vaccines.

So sorry for those who were given the run around for getting swab tests. Hopefully this info helps.


I went to Holland Village Raffles clinic on the 5th level of Raffles Holland V Mall to see their GP for a bad sore throat. It was Sat afternoon and most other clinics were closed. Had to get a swab test at the same clinic. Swab test room is next to GP’s room. Paid $10 for swab test and two basic meds. Counter lady said something about being subsidised by govt. Got my negative result next evening by sms. Think I spent 1.5 hrs at clinic in total.

The building is right by Holland Village mrt station, a bus stop and a small car park.

What had me concerned is “....... it rapidly breaks down in air to chlorine gas and oxygen.” I still remember my sec 3 chem lab lesson. We had to identify chlorine gas by its greenish yellow colour and choking smell. Not my ideal disinfectant. Also, chlorine in water can form weak acids. Our mouths and noses sure wet with mucus/saliva. I assume breathing in chlorine gas will make our mouths and noses more acidic. No doubt very very weak acids else this product would’ve had noticeable side effects, but think I’ll stick to breathing in normal air.

I believe each question is designed to sieve out kids Gifted department wants and varies every year. This year seem to look for the nimble mind who can grasp context, concept and idea without being taught English such high standard is probably guessing too.

Know someone with IQ in excess of 170 and not selected. Another case, my neighbour prepared for GEP with Olympic training and went to prep class since preschool. Even got affirmation from Child Development from KKH that this child is highly gifted. Cannot get pass first round.

My brother trains his children since 3 years old each with 2 prep schools each. Charting their IQ levels with a yearly IQ check. One of the prep school claims to set the questions for GEP so they are preparing for next year answers. Yet to know if these route warrants a place in GEP because they are 8 yo, 6 yo & 5 yo.

We don’t have the financial means and time to train so leave it to destiny. If paper is too easy this year, maybe next year will be different.

I am astonished by your brother’s approach. Children are not machines. Those kind of trainings may let them lose the sense of empathy, love and sharing. I somehow hothoused my Son, however, I think it is more important to love your children, Not cold paper and numbers. No matter how my son does in school, it will not change my love.
It becomes meaningless when the aim is merely passing the test. My two cents.
