I checked with HCI. Call for interview will be on 26 or 27 Dec 2012. If you can not get call on these two days, you most likely failed in appeal. HCI will then inform these who fail in appeal through email message.

My friend's dd got 259 but didn't get into NJC. She called the school, was told the COP is 257, the admin staff asked my friend to call MOE to check. How come like that?

I just called NJC. The COP for NJC in 2013 is 259 excluding HMT.

If I am not wrong, your ques is about appealing after S1 for a kid who didn't meet the S1 COP. Eg a 255 kid appealing to a Sch with S1 COP 257.

I think it depends on where the rejected DSA CO places go to. I think most have WL lists so the rejected CO places will be filled up, no balance for S1 appeal. For those with no WL (any school?), then the places not taken up by DSA CO will either be thrown to S1 central posting exercise or withheld for S1 appeal cases....we don't know which is the practice now but yes that affects the S1 appeal success rate. But with the new ruling, I would assume most if not all DSA schools have standby proper WL listings to fill up the rejected DSA CO cases. If so, not many S1 appeal cases will be entertained.

I don't think can compare with last year becos the no transfer ruling affected some IPs' procedures and they had to release more spaces to S1 appeal

Great! you are the first one who answered my question.

WLs (Waiting lists) are always there after DSA.

Let me give an example: my friend's son achieved 260+2 in 2010/2011 cohort. He got CO from NJC through DSA, but he successfully appealed to HCI after S1 posting. The COP of HCI in 2010/2011 cohort was only 257 including HMTL.

I think the most of the appeal applicants to HCI, including those on WL, could not compete with my friend's son, if taken by merit.

Under MOE's new regulation, this phenomenon should not happen again.

My conclusion is: Under MOE new regulattion, appeal will be less competive, more straightforward and predictable if your PLSE score is 1-2 marks close to the COP of the school.

The condition is: Merit goes by first.

My guess is that there are significantly more IP single-gender places for boys than for girls. For boys, there's RI, HCI, ACS(I)? For girls RGS, NYG. NYG with many affliated students will have a raised COP. So girls with scores below RGS/NYG cut-off will naturally apply to NJC, DHS, maybe RVH (less popular because of distance). NJC, DHS girl:boy ratio is 2:1. MOE has closed the IP doors, so some of the good girl schools (eg St Nics, MGS, SCGS) have had their IP application rejected.

Opinion 1: The COPs to these top IP schools will go up as
1) There are more pupils than last year (but it is comparable to 2009/2010).
2) There is higher EESIS this year.

Opinion 2: The COPs to some of these top IP schools might go down as there are more IP schools this year and they will, more or less, attract some of the top scorers (T-score>260)

My opinion: The COPs to these school may go up 1 mark.
