firefly38:I do not support same COP for GEP and Mainstream for scholarships too!My above post was not in support of (or against) same COP for GEP & Mainstream for scholarships. I believe these are two different groups of pupils doing different curriculum, hence they should be accessed with different sets of criteria and be rewarded appropriately & fairly (even if it means having different COP for scholarships)..
The intention of my post was to point out the fact that, if people wants to compare & complain, they will find ways & means to do so, no matter what MOE does. Hence, setting up separate scholarships with different names, for GEP & Mainstream, may not convince these people that it is fair to all..
Hope this clarifies..

While I agree that it is a good idea to have separate scholarships for GEP & Mainstream to minimize confusion, I am not sure if that will effectively stop people from comparing & complaining..
I agree wholeheartedly with your point. It will be better to separate the gep and ms scholarships into different baskets. Let the geppers compete amongst themselves as in the case for the Edusave Bursary & Scholarship awards currently.FQW:

I think MOE confused everyone. They should not give EESIS to GEP students at all. Instead give them something else (call it GEP scholarship or another name). For example, it can go like this:
\"GEP is a program which starts from P4 up to Sec level subject to the child passing certain promotion criteria each year. At end of P6, the promotion criteria includes a pass in Social Studies and a T score of 250, etc. As long as a child meets these promotion criteria and enters a Sec school which runs SBGE (School Based Gifted Edu), he is awarded GEP scholarship ($2400 a year)\"
Would this be seen as more acceptable?
By the way, I have no kid in GEP. Just for discussion sake.
I think the unhappiness stems from the fact that GEPpers have a lower COP (250) than mainstreamers (258) for eligibility of scholarships. So, even if MOE decides to have a different scholarship, with a different name, for GEP, people will still complain why GEPpers are rewarded (eg. GEP scholarship) when they score 250 & above, while mainstreamers are rewarded (eg. EESIS) only if they score 258 & above..
In my opinion, as long as the COP for eligibility of scholarships of GEP & mainstream are different (GEP's being lower), people will still perceive it as \"unfair\", no matter what we call those scholarships..[/quote] :goodpost: firefly38 -

Hi all
I need help to solve this qn urgently. Thanks in advance.
John always gives 20% of what he earns to his father. In March, his father received $185 less than in February. In April, his father received $165.75 more than in March. If John's percentage decrease in earning from February to March was the same as the percentage increase from March to April, how much did he earn in April?
cheers.
It is $195.
Thanks! -

Hi
Please help to solve this question. Thanks in advance.
Leon bought some terrapins and guppies for a total of $96. He bought 3 times as many guppies as terrapins. He paid $30 more for the terrapins than for the guppies. Each terrapin cost $10.40 more than each guppy.
(a)How many terrapins did he buy?
(b)What was the cost of each guppy? -

Dear all
Please help me with these two qns.
2)Richard, Dan and Tom shared a bag of marbles. Richard received 60 marbles and Tom received 25% less marbles than Dan. Later, Richard gave 28 marbles to be shared by Dan and Tom. As a result, Tom still has 25% fewer marbles than Dan and the number of marbles Dan receives increases by 40%. How many marbles were there in the bag?
Thanks!
Tom : Dan = 75:100 = 3:4 --> 15u : 20u -- total 35u
In the end,
Dan --> 20u x 7/5 = 28u
Tom --> 3/4 x 28u = 21u
Total 49u
49u-35u = 14u --> 28 , 1u --> 2
Total number of marbles --> 60 + 35 x 2 = 130
cheers.
Thank you very much! MathIzzzFun, you are great! -

Hi
Please help to solve this question:
Yanling had 60 % more stamps than Lena. Tricia had 75% fewer stamps tha Yanling. Yanling and Lena gave Tricia some stamps in the ratio 4:1. As a result, Tricia had 2 and a half times as many stamps as before and Yanling had 300 stamps more than Lena in the end. How many stamps did Lena give to Tricia?
Thanks!
