      Lock:
May I know what are the options available once the kids graduate from SOTA? Do they go on to local Uni and what are the chances like compared to 'A' level students? Heard IB is more popular overseas, so does it means after SOTA can only go overseas for further education?

In the SOTA's chart, the path for the students is local uni or overseas uni.
Like the fully academic track, a handful of highly talented students can win themselves scholarships to study overseas.

In fact, the SOTA students actually have a wider choice than the IP student. They do the full pure science as well in their 4th-6th year granting them the ability to apply to Medicine if they do well. They also do economics and the arts subjects so as long as their academic results are good, they actually get a chance to go to the mainstream's choice of university courses.

For the majority they can further their training widely in any of the university of choice for the discipline they are keen in and
for those who want to pursue passionately in their talented areas, they can apply locally to:

      For music:
NUS - The Yong Siew Toh Conservatory of Music
      NAFA

For Visual Fine Arts(Bachelor & Masters degree):
NUS - School of Design and Environment
      LaSalle Asia School of Arts
      NAFA
      Cavalry Italian Design School, Singapore
      Raffles Design Institute

    • RE: Are Our Children's Future Predicated on Good Primary Schools

I have an interesting scenario to share of 2 children and perhaps the parents can share your views on which would be better to develop a child.

      Child A in elite school
      Child B in neighbourhood school

Child A has always had better results than Child B in terms of % every year but:

Child B is the one who receives the most awards of reward for the academic performance and Child A receives nothing due to school system albeit being ranked top in class repeatedly after every exam.

Child B also receives many opportunities in school simply because highly valued as top student whereas Child A is treated as like any other child perhaps because the school has many such children.

In terms of esteem, Child B is always on cloud 9 but Child A feels ordinary.

As a parent, do you prefer your child to be in Child’s A or Child’s B position? I will share mine after I hear from you.

    • RE: conversion of chinese character into pictures

      Hi Lauren,

We have an art teacher(native speaker) who creatively designs an art course to help very young children appreciate Chinese words from learning how to draw them out. The course is \"Learning Chinese through drawing\" 象形字. Drawing helps the child to remember the character better and can extend it to other characters.

It breaks down the barriers in learning Chinese for them in an enjoyable way and at the same time pick up drawing skills. The course is a highly interactive one with the teacher.

This course is only suitable for those weak in Chinese and dislike Chinese. If a child is already good in it, he/she may be too impatient to learn this way as drawing is required.

      If interested, please PM me.

Success certainly contingents on several supporting factors.
Success is definitely not easy, taking the first step even harder for many because of difficulty of success. 😉

Actually, as a company we are re-crossing the chasm, each time we get comfortable, we start to become restless and emerge with new ideas that build on our existing model......so in a way we are continuously challenging ourselves for organic growth.

Btw, we also believe in the butterfly story, it's struggle that makes us grow by leaps and bounds. 😉

So the only way for entrepreneur spirit to reign in Singapore is probably only one word - PASSION.

That is one of the main success factor in local entrepreneurship.

Passion is a starting point n a necessary factor.
But without financial backing n incidental support,
      passion itself won't go far.

Success certainly contingents on several supporting factors.

Good on you :celebrate:[/quote]Thank you! :celebrate: Singapore has done alot for my education and given me ample opportunities in many ways...so I hope to strike out my next spring here to progress with the nation.

Art seems a tough choice to take but I have a personal strong belief in it as I see the goodness it has done for my child in her development. I believe art is the stepping stone to developing a child for greater things in life, not necessarily to end up as an artist. Many people ask me how I train my child so now I am ready to share through art and i. 😄
