Hello everyone,

I am new to this site and I am not an SC but a PR. We have a son who will need to register for P1 this summer (born in the year 2013). We live in the Newton area and all the schools near us seem maxed out way before 2C and even at 2C, SCs will take priority over PRs so it looks pretty grim on the probability for us to get into ACSJ which is just next door to where we are. Thus, we were then thinking of Bukit Timah Primary as another friend's kid is there but that family is within 1KM and are PRs. We however, would be >2KM away and hence seems its needs to go for ballot.

I saw the historical stats for Bukit Timah Primary but I'm not really understanding it.... does it imply historically, PRs has no chance since it seems all the SC in 2C fills up the space? Other primary schools that were suggested are Balestier and St Gabriel which is around the 10KM mark for us too.

So long and short of it, I'm trying to get some help to identify which primary schools are near us that would give us a good chance of getting in given we are Phase 2C PRs in order of good academic ranking.... if there's such a thing?

Please help this mummy get to grips with the Singapore primary registration and balloting trends so I can have a think what strategy and priority we should go for.

What about considering River Valley Primary as your other option? It is not far from where you live. All the best!

That's great news! Heard from many agents the rental market has soften considerably. My previous tenant didn't renew and the unit was empty for 4+ months. Thankfully just managed to find another one recently!

Yes, it's within 1km to all 3 schools but at > $2,500 psf, it may not be the best option if distance (to the 3 schools) is an important consideration. I would rather look at other options.

Yes within 1 km to the 3 boys' schools. Went to see the showflat at Amara. Didn't book a place but welcome to the neighbourhood!

Thanks for sharing. My son will join CH Turf Club when he turns 19 month in Jan next year. He is not shy but doesn't warm up to new situation easily. I'm worried he will cry for more than a month. May I know how many children are there in PreN Thomson class?

I enrolled my kid for preN class this month in CH thomson. My son is 24mths old and very shy boy always cling to us. I expected that he will cry for the first week. But to my suprise the teacher in preN class in CH thomson can handle him well. He has big improvement and more independent now. To me the teacher is important and I found that preN teacher in CH thomson is awesome

Visited Chiltern House at SLF building in April 2018. Was excited about the visit becoz I hv heard a lot of good things about this school. Unfortunately, the school din work for me. The facilities were very old, looks run down and dated. I especially hated the preschool classroom as it was small and I was concerned when the school told me that the PG and N1 group students r not allowed out of the school due to their age. They hv to stay within a very small contained area. I will hate to hv my girl cooped up in a tiny classroom all day with access only to a sad looking tiny indoor plastic playground.

Dun hv good vibes of the school. No matter how good their Teachers or teaching methods maybe, the facilities were simply too small, too old.. there was not even enough natural or proper lighting in it. I felt suffocated during the tour itself.

Sorry you didn't have a good tour at the Thomson branch. Did you visit CH's other branches and other schools? I brought my 10 month old son for a visit last month, he totally enjoyed it. He got a chance to interact with the teachers, students and played in few of the classrooms. I would have liked it better if they had an outdoor playground setting, hence, we visited their Turf Club branch for comparison, which my son also loved, he enjoyed himself so much that he stayed for almost 3 hours, refusing to go home. We had just signed him up for next year's playgroup session, hope to meet more parents who are sending their kids at CH next year

Did you end up enrolling your child at Montessori for Children in Newton? I brought my son for a school visit last week. Am impressed with the fact they truly stick to the Montessori philosophy, without tailoring the curriculum to fit local schools. My son didn't quite enjoy himself as compared to another school we went to, but if we were to choose a Montessori program, it would be the one at Newton.
