Yes, the school has always been involved in community services and among all these, the school had always had tied connection with PCFs and My First Skool to encourage the students and parents to consider TGPS as their Primary School partner.

During my children kiddy's days, they went to the school canteen to have a real life experienced of P1 recess and I know the school is still doing the same for Kindergarten around the area.

Don't worry if you miss the PCF visitation and parents talk, i believe there are still opportunity for you to visit the school. Just give the office a call and i believe they may have some suitable schedule for you.

Recently read on newspaper that Google had these virtual views of the shops in various shopping malls, wonder if they may be able to extend such services to schools too. So parents, whom are too busy to visit the schools, can still have a \"LIVE\" views of the school surroundings.... :boogie:

I just found out that the nearby PCF had a half day program at TGPS where they went around the school and parents attended a talk.
What a pity! My girl does not go there and we missed the opportunity.
But i understand they have filled up 3 classes at the sibling phase of p1 registration.

Indeed it's a pity and i remembered my 2 kids were busied doing the \"treasure hunt\" during one of the open houses. We were there almost every year...

I guessed there are many reasons for school's decision to do away with Open House - I remembered that year due to Sars, the open house was cancelled, last minute, following MOH advisory.

Hopefully, as we go along the journey, the schools may want to do Open House event, alternate year perhaps, to engage the parents and current pupils and potential pupils with all the activities that you had described. :boogie:

I think it is a pity if the school is doing away the open house event. I feel that the open house event is not just for the potential new students to learn more about the the school, it is also for the existing students to feel a sense of belonging to the school.

Last year Ds1 participated in open house as a scout. We also took Ds2 to visit the school so that he was familiar with the surrounding. We were very impressed by the works/presentation done by the students and teachers during the open house. When we went to the classrooms, we saw the middle and upper primary students mending the booths and asisting the younger kids playing educational games. I could sense that the younger kids admired the big gogor and jiejie a lot for being so knowledgeable. The existing students mending the booths also felt so proud to showcase what they have learnt in school. The performance at the stage also an eye opener for us. The two boys had a great time playing games, learning about math and science and brought home some souvenir.

This is very different from another \"branded\" school I visited the same day where external professional event organizers were hired for the open house. Visitors to that school bought paid tickets to participate in various game booths. DSs were quite disappointed when they could not take part in any game because we did not purchase any tickets :-(. This is also one of the main reasons I felt that sending my boys to TGPS is the right choice.

Parents may gain valuable information from a parent-school seminar. But for the child who will be spending most of the next six years in school, he/she likely won't know if he/she will enjoy the school through the seminars. I do hope that the school will organize an event for the potential P1 children (not just for parents) if they are doing away with the open house.

From my understanding, the schools are slowly doing away with open house event but instead there will be a parents seminar organised by MOE held in one of the school in the same zone. In collaboration, the few schools will have their representatives (Principal/Vice Principal and HODs) onsite to answer parents question pertaining to the school itself. I believe this year seminar was held at Zhong Hua Primary School

If you are interested to know more about TGPS, you can call up the school office and arrange for a visit to the school with your child.

There are many dedicated teachers in TGPS (based on my own experienced of a P5 and P3 kids.) School always emphasis on 3 ways communication traffic (Teacher-kids-Parents), so it's equally important we, parents, work hand in hand with the teachers to make the education journey memorable for our kids. It's not an easy task and we learnt along the way.

Indeed, not all PVs get to follow their child's class as for Learning Journey, we usually encountered \"Supply exceed Demand situation\"...

As a LJ coordinator, we would try our best that ensure that every PV has the chance to go with their child's class. If you are interested to join your DD's class for LJ, please indicate your interest to the FT, so that they will have a record and can inform the LJ coordinator.

Also most of the time, the LJ coordinator is racing against time to get PV for the LJ to ensure that every class has a PV as we are working on tight schedule.

We are always looking for ways or process to improve the allocation system, so if you have comment or feedback to improve the system, please feel free to PM me or share via the forum. I am happy to \"soak in\" any suggestions.

Great that you enjoyed yrself. Not all PVs get to follow the child's class. It's first response first allocated class kinda system.

Anyway, Term 2 has started and I find that time flies. My DD is already so used to TGPS she seems to know every nook and corner of the school already. She is not strong at MT so though there is no assessment so far, I'm just waiting to see which class she gets allocated to in Term 3. Heard that the class allocation is strictly by results.

I signed her up for Berries since Jan to boost her MT. I think she's drowning as the vocabulary and reading passages are way beyond her to cope. Thought of switching her to EduPlus which has a centre quite near to TGPs. Anyone tried EduPlus before?

Thanks for sharing the MTP slides info on asknlearn. Yes, during the MTP, i asked the same question to the Co-FT and she mentioned that the CAs for P3 are not taken into consideration for the overall score. The 2 main ones are SA1/SA2, which was the same during my girl's time.

This year in P5, CA plays a certain %. So i guess eventhough CA for P3 are not taken into consideration, we must still stressed its importance to our child, so they will not think lightly of the tests and treat them with seriousness. :xedfingers:

Like what you mentioned the forum has a lot to digest. I did not have time to think and take note but here is what I have:

Online homework will starts on week 7th with P1 to P3 on odd week while the rest on even week.

Unlike P2 that only has SA1, P3 will have both SA1 and SA2 on top of the term tests. Normally SA1 takes only small percentage while SA2 is often larger than 60%.

There will be talent development programme for sport for P3 this year. There will also be a 1 day stay over adventure camp on 3 June for the P3 kids. External vendors will be hired to organize the camp.

P3 kids will be trained on MS Words as part of the ICT baseline skill. This term, the kids are doing digital art during their art lesson so they are exposed to art and ICT at the same time.

There is this bReading4PS program to train the students on presentation skill. TEH school feel that that is an important skill that will carry a long way for them.

The teacher also shares some important dates:
5 Feb- LJ to Zoo
28 March - heritage tour to Chinatown
3 June - one day adventure camp
31May - next MTP. This one will be the one to one session
1July - school health service visit
August -GEP FOR P3

I only managed to attend the last session of the P3 MTP as i rushed over once my DD class session ended. So if there is any notes to share, i will be all ears.

I saw your DH, briefly, as i heard a father asking for his DS's assessment form. If i was not mistaken, he was in a Red-Tee. If i known you had asked him to \"hearout\" for my son's name, i would have gone to him to say hello but worried if i suddenly approached him, he would be \"surprised\" like rejoice.

@rejoice, no worries about being slow as there were alot to digest on that forum, so i understand your state of mind.

Yes, if you are able to join the LJ for Zoo, i believe it would be good to register direct to the FT and she can confirm you as the Class PV, usually it's First-come-First-Reserved.

I like the Class FT - she seem strict but in a kind way, the Co-FT looks and sounds a bit soft and children may climb over over..haha. I guess FT will be going on her ML in few months time, so hopefully the transition for the new FT or relief teacher will be smooth.

How was your MTP session?

I attended my DD P5 MTP and was overwhelmed with the syallabus and FT/Co-FT approaches to the teaching. It's definitely a great jump from P4. I will have to work harder and more diligently alongside with her. :nailbite:

Attended the P5/P6 forum at the hall after the classroom session, another eye-opening experienced for me. Especially when the Principal shared the T-score calculations with the parents, i was flabbergasted with the formula set by MOE...now i will only pray hard that my DD put in her 101% in her preparation for PSLe... :xedfingers:

After all the nailbiting feeds, the good news was the 2012 PSLE results was a great sharing and according to the slide - 100% passes in the mainstream. 18 scored above aggregate of 250. Also a few exemplary students were showcased as using their DSA for admission to school of their choices. In this aspect, i would agree with the P's words that all TGPS teachers work very hard with the students and are in the right track of holistic education.

Glad that I managed to attend the P3 MTP session and met with a few mommies from my DS2 class. @rejoice, it's nice to finally say Hello after all our correspondence in this forum. Looking forward to more networking with the 3D parents

Yes, leaves are important to working parents, especially with school-going children.

I have a feeling that this \"Meet-The-Parent\" is not the one-to-one session that we used to attend, at the end of Term 1 and Term 3. As this session required ALL Parents to be seated by 3pm in the child's classroom, i look at it as a forum sharing session. It's also a good chance to know whom the child's FT are and what is HER VISION for the class..

Also most importantly, a chance for us parents to network with other parents of your own child's class. I find that it's useful especially if our own kid is on MC or sometimes being a \"blur sotong\" , may miss out on some details from the FT. Parents then can share with each other and update on latest happening of the class... (Personally i had benefitted from the alliances that i had formed for my DS's class.)

We are considered lucky that TGPS is holding different Parents session to allow us parents to be better informed and guided along with our child's School Learning Journey.

I had heard about schools which do not communicate or minimum communication (One PTM for whole year) with parents and left many parents guessing most of the time. :nailbite:

So if you do have enough leaves to spare, i would suggest that you attend the session, if not, probably similar to what i am doing, get some help from other parents of your child's class. I know 1G parents group is quite active too. :boogie:

Yes, i believe PTM is for all levels, so the parents get the chance to know their kid's 2013 FTs.

As for the SFE event, Ninjago is correct - it's for P3 to P6 parents.

@Ninjago, oh dear, hope the affected child was not too seriously hurt. Yes, kids of these schooling ages are hyper-active and some will challenge the limit. Sigh...we just have to constantly remind our DS/DD to be careful in their daily activities in school.

There is an upcoming Parents Workshop organised by School SFE and the talk is scheduled on 18 January. Closing date to register is 16 Jan, so you still have time to indicate your interest. I have a prior appointment so will have to give this a miss..:(

Yeah, just first week of school and there are so many forms, so naturally the kiddos will miss out one or two...
