For those staying HDB, sure have schools with 1-2km. But some private estates, do not even have one primary school within 2km. So please be understanding towards these parents, u think they want to be in this situation, and if they are alum of one good school, they will sure use these phase 2A to apply. You can't blame them.

Not true! I stay in HDB flat, near fairfield but you know how hard is going to that school? Almost two fighting for one seat. And this school is my only choice as others are more than 2 km.
At least you still have a chance to fight for with distance priority. I have many friends staying in ulu ulu place with no primary schools within 2km, their stress level is higher as they don't even have distance priority. So this alum thingy cannot debate finish. everyone house got a bible which cannot be read - translate from Chinese. As kaisumaster have say no system is perfect just have to find a system which can fit majority of the people......and lessens the pain for most people also. In this world, not everything is equal and fair. As long parents play by rules, there is sportsmanship.....
Yes I also use Asus at home and I believe it is really worth the money. It allows me to control what time the data connection stops and allows me to block a particular website I do not want my kids to go. I can also prevent my child from going to websites that they are not suppose to go to like maybe a 18 year+ website. I can set a feature that allows my child to only go to websites suitable for his/her age.

Which model u are using? I'm using merlin firmware for my Asus router, a lot of functions, more than the default firmware.

Not too sure about the frimware but it should be the merlin one too.
I think u using the default one. Cos merlin u need to upload and replace the manufacturer firmware....Merlin got more added features than the manufacturer firmware.
MOE should stop those staying further than 2km to the school to apply. This will prevent distant travelling for the alumni and this will give more chances for those staying nearby.

      Siao liao lah.

There are residences where there are no schools within a 2km radius or there may be a school but your child is of the wrong gender, how? Homeschool them?

Staying nearby? I thought most HDB estates have one or two undersubscribed schools?
For those staying HDB, sure have schools with 1-2km. • RE: Opinions of the Primary School Registration System

      My proposal:

      Phase 1 - status quo

After phase 1, remaining slots to be split between Phase 2A(1), 2A(2), 2B and 2C. Reasons is there are parents got no time to do PV or no alum connection, and there are parents who very free can do PV and yet have alum connection - think twice of committing their time and resources as the slots are split equally from Phase 2A(1), 2A(2), 2B and 2C. End of the day, this level up the field but still have privileges accorded to the phase.

      Priority criteria:
      1. SC priority follow by PR.
      2. Distance.
      3. As per phase rules.

      Admin:
      1. Real time updates by school in Facebook to inform parents their chances of balloting to make further decision. Banning withdrawal will not help at all as some will have genuine reasons.

      2. If the first day confirm balloting, school to inform parents immediately which have no chance of balloting to withdraw application and find other school. This will prevent parents which no chance of balloting to apply and those who apply can also withdraw on time. Don’t knock the wall unnecessary.

End of the day there is no 100% fool proof system and the world is never fair. No point quarreling, just hope to make the system transparent and clear and can minimize parents anxiety and sleepless night.

      Thanks again, Aster!

I have a clearer picture now with your advise and the information in Philips' website.
Philips better than OCBC as we can use the $1000 to invest instead of putting in the bank as a deposit.
      No problem. Cheers

Is it possible to share how you use the router? Thanks

It depend on the model u using. Mine is a Asus AC router which cost around $300 plus. It's a high end consumer model wit a lot of functions and most of it you need to have basic background in networking. Basically my router have this parental control which allow the registering of the device using MAC address(Equipment IC number) then I will set the usage time to cut off let's say at 9pm. So on the dot those device which I register will not be able to access to internet. It's a useful function which will frustrate the kids even my wife haha I disable her device also cos too much games....btw those normal router given by the ISP cannot make it, those are really spartan models.....
