atutor2001:I fully agree with your sentiments. This is the problem with the system! a kid with 62 marks for every subject is not suitable for Express in secondary school ? Why we need to limit their choice now? I once spoke to a medical doctor and he told me that he would have been streamed to EM3 if he was born a few years later as his primary school results were very poor and there was no way for him to be a medical doctor.Currently, the cut-off point for express is about 188 (not sure).
This kid has 186 (I think) with 4 Bs. Based on banding for raw-score, B means from 65 to 74 (correct me if I am wrong). Alternatively, if we use the crude conversion factor of 3/4 to covert T-score back to raw score, 186 would roughly give an average of 62 marks (raw score) per subject.
Are we saying that a kid with 62 marks for every subject is not suitable for Express in secondary school? That since to be the case now, regardless of the distribution of the grades as only the aggregate T-score is used for determining if someone qualifies for Express. Not sure if anybody heard of successful appeal to get into Express as the grades are evenly distributed.
As you can see, he can be a medical doctor because he was in a different education system.
