RE: Singapore Sports School
Hi dlye,
I share the same concern as you, fees and others such as food, their well being in the dormitory etc.
I understand the FAS (Financial Assistance Scheme) is based on household income. I would also like to know if it is strictly based on the figures on their website or they are flexible enough to approve on a case by case basis. I’m also interested to know how easy it is to attain scholarship (I understand it is based on sports results and not academic results). Another sum of money I’m concerned about is overseas competition fees. I understand parents have to fork out certain percentage of the total competition fees each time they compete overseas. I would like to know on average how many times a year? It may work out to be a substantial sum of money and we are talking about a commitment of four to six years. I hope to get a very clear picture of it before deciding if I could afford it if my child is selected.
I have been trying to get these information but so far I have not been able to speak with any parent whose children is in the sports school. Hopefully would be able to gather these information here.
Another area of my concern is the many meals that they eat everyday in school. How nutritious are they? They are at an important stage of growing up. Eating right and nutritiously is important.
I understand the number of subjects the students study in Sports School is minimal. Wonder will this affect their career path in future if they choose not to pursue a career that is sports related.
Can anyone shed some light on our concern here? -
