OneMap is showing that we are few meters outside 1 km since the calculation is done from center of school to my block. If I move the point closer to the school gate, we are within 1 km to school. So, I can appeal that I am within 1 km ?

What happens if there is no school within 1km of my address that offers the Mother Tongue we prefer (Tamil in this case). There are only two Schools (Corporation and Westwood primary) within 1km and both do not offer Tamil. Interesting situation we are in......

But the 3 good schools

i did some checking using onemap.sg>tools>measure and it calculates distance from center of school to the housing block. So, its not the \"main gate\". To be fair, I think the measurement should be from perimeter/main gate of school compound to the housing block. I think it is a matter of \"programming/software\" convenience for the onemap.sg to use school's center-point as reference. To consider the perimeter/main gate requires more work on their part......

before onemap, MOE and schools had also used the center-point as reference.

I don't think they used center-point as reference earlier......they were prolly confused earlier as to what to consider as reference. Why else wud the distance from school-to-house change year after year, shouldn't it have remained constant if the rules were clear.......I think some parents will start fighting in the future over what shud be the reference point !!

How old is your child now?

The schools champs listed are nearest to CPS and offer Tamil. They usually don't undergo balloting within 1km so even if you are more than 1km from them, it should be fine.

If you still have time, you can find out more about Parent Volunteering at other schools too, I believe most other schools in Jurong West offer Tamil. Only Juying, CPS and Frontier don't.
