There seems to be some confusion over \"cut outs\" and looks like the answer seems divided between 1).circle or 3).triangle only.

Firstly, the cut out is in the shape of a circle, triangle and square? OR is it a hole cut in the middle of a sheet.

If 1 of the sheet is transparent and not mentioned which, then the likely ans is 2... a square outer (dark) with a inner circle

Steel has many types - ordinary, stainless and those with extra high strength. Certain type of steel cant be magnetised. In tackling psle sc questions, the children should stick to what the sc syllabus is teaching. The sc paper is taken by mainstream kids as well as gifted ones. In general, the pupils should use what is taught in the syllabus to answer the question. Unnecessary info may confuse some kids than do more good. As for metals, it is incorrect. There are magnetic and non-magnetic metals (aluminium, copper…). Are all metals magnetic? This question appears in the textbook (p4, interactions 3&4) for a purpose. If a child has been practising the exam papers, he/she will have done this type of question many times from p4-6. One caution on using assessment books and exam papers is the answers may be wrong. If in doubt, just ask your child to consult the science teachers/tutors.

Saw a question in one of DD's assesment books which she said came out today. A simple question but she was a little confused by it. The question was to state what material the rod(in a circuit, electromagnet) was made of. She said some of her friends put Metal while others were more specific and said iron/steel. She is afraid the markers would penalise for not stating specifically. Anyone know the correct answer and if both answers are acceptable?

definitely not metals as copper/aluminium are both metals but can't be magnetised into an electromagnet

One of the boys said it was ok. None of questions stumped him. He told me some stuff I revised with him yesterday came out. Few others said it was tough but none of them have told me exactly what the questions were. Was told two relationship questions came out. Experiment. Electricity combined with materials. Plant transport system and photosynthesis. Cells. Energy with slope and wooden block. Energy conversion when ball hit water bottle. Elastic spring force.
