      Chief,

I also want to chope next year's fun pack. Thank You!

I can help you collate orders from members here.

OK, thanks for your offer, qms! We need a ballpark figure on how many people want the 2015 fun pack, but of course 1st come 1st served, depending on how many we can get. So need a list too. No promises, though. We'll try our best to get as many as we can.

      Hi chief/qms

I'd like to put my name for next year's fun pack if you are starting a list. Thank you!

      Barney,

I personally think its impt the schools look at other aspects of our DC's submission for non-academic DSA. Irrespective of our DC's CCA talents, the school has a primary responsibility to educate our DC in return for our DC contribution to the school. To me, the extent of academic 'fit' is key. I've heard sorry tales of sport talents not coping academically despite winning honors for their school. It's the child who suffers the consequences.

Honestly, it's too early to tell if my DD will get any CO. But one of my largest worry is her fit to the academic expectation of the school throughout this DSA process. If let Tscore determine, no such concerns but one will worry of subpar performance on this single exam. That's why still DSA lor..
Yes, this I totally agree. The school selection need to fit the child's academic capability.

I have a friend who told me if her kid is being shortlisted by DHS, that means the child has the aptitude of being in an IP program. I was like 'huh?' and was trying to reconcile this statement, hence the question here. Shouldn't the parent know where their own child stand instead of depending on this?

Should be in early August.. NUSH is usually the first school to release DSA results..

      CO starts to surface???

some still waiting for their 1st interview/trails.....[/quote]I know of some who went through sports domain already received calls from the schools asking them what are their chances of placing the schools as 1st choice if they were given an offer. Maybe these are 2nd tier schools where they experienced giving COs but the kids did not choose their schools.

I would like to hear the views from experienced parents here about DSA to Dunman High via CCA domain.

Unlike other schools which have their trials and audition before anything else, DHS request for documents, need to achieve a certain % in P5 SA2 and P6 SA1 results and they only shortlist the applicants much later to invite them for trials and audition. Does that mean if kids are being shortlisted, they would have achieved DHS required GAT results?

Does anyone here know of their shortlist criteria and can share here? I'm not sure if we can safely conclude that those shortlisted by DHS would have the aptitude to go through the IP program?

I think it's not just dhs. If the child is going the ip route whether through cca or academic, the school will take into account the school results(usually through the submission online) and gat or hast, though it may not be in the same order. I reckon the cut off for gat or hast may not be as high as those who are applying through academic. From the school's viewpoint, it's sufficient for them to want to shortlist the child.

      Thank you for your reply.

Maybe I'm just being sensitive but after checking around with some parents and some schools, I'd say DHS is one of the few that look at other aspects first before looking at the applicants skills in sports or performing arts for those who apply via CCA domain.

I do agree with you that the requirement for GAT or HAST may not be as high as those who are applying through academics though. Not sure how much can such results be relied upon?

      Hi Koolmum

I do not encourage DD to apply DSA if you mentioned her academic is the 70% type, she will definitely struggle in her studies. End up you have to spend lots of money for tuition. She not only has school work to cope plus tuition as well. She will be burn for her weekends.

It might discourage her from enjoying her studies. As parents we all want our child to be happy in their learning, right!

The CCA takes up lots of time. Depending on where you stay.

Duman High is one of the good school every parent wants their child to go in but still the person who study is your girl. Do discuss with her what she wants and not what we want.

      Hope my sharing helps.
Sorry for intruding but if it's the child who wants to try for DSA to DHS and us as parents think that he's academically not there, what will you do? Do you support him all the way? There's indeed some improvement in his attitude towards studies but not sure how long it'll last.

Since DHS has GAT tests, doest that mean all who DSA and are selected are somehow deemed able to cope? Does that apply to DSA via other domains other than academics?

      Advice needed here. Thank you.

    • RE: Q&A - PSLE Math

Need help. How to solve the following question using model or any method that a P6 will understand.

Mohan and Rabin had some seashells each. If Mohan gave Rabin 250 seashells, both would have an equal number of seashells. If Rabin gave Mohan 250 seashells, Mohan would have 3 times as many seashells as Rabin. How many seashells did Rabin have at first?

I have this question on DSA which I hope some parents here can help to answer. Assuming a child went for DSA via sports to 2 schools of different COP, school A at 250+ and school B at 240 and was issued CO for both schools. During the DSA exercise school preference stage, the child put in school A as first choice and school B as second choice. If the actual PSLE t-score for this child is 230, which school will the child be posted to? Is it still school A or the system will post the child to a school closest to the t-score achieved by the child?

Any insights from the parents here will be much appreciated.

If you were offered CO for both schools, you'll be posted to the school you have indicated as your first choice, regardless of your T-score (providing of course that you meet the minimum express t-score) and COP of the school. A CO is exactly that - a confirmed offer.

:thankyou: jtoh. Thanks for clearing my doubts.
