      Hi Muffin, thanks!

Yup I think they keep changing things around to keep it fresh! VP confirmed to me that JTP has been done away with, asked for the difference between Xavier and JTP and I didn’t really understand. They used to have some write up on JTP on their official website but it’s now disappeared and nothing about Xavier.

Hi Muffin, sorry am very suaku but what is AGMR?

Actually boys will know. I didn't know anything and my son will tell me which is the top class and he told me last month about Xavier as the teacher mentioned to them. But I have very limited information on Xavier. Does anyone have a kid in 4Xavier this year that can share what is expected? I am worried there will be lots of projects; I'm not a handa on mum at all and just leave him to do his own thing (my only input is to nag nag nag 😉

There is no more Joseph and Patrick in P3 2015

School wants to do away with the stigma of being/not being in these classes.
Oh so they completely removed the names 'Patrick' and 'Joseph' from the classes? But if they substitute with another name then it doesn't make a difference. Or perhaps they are alternating the names for the high ability classes every few years to keep everyone guessing

Anyone knows which are the top P3 classes for 2015? The booklist is different for the classes.

If you go to the Pacific Bookstore website to order the books you can see as they will have a separate booklist indicated which is only for the 3 named classes. The curious thing is that for 2015 P3 classes there are 4 classes named on the website which have a separate booklist - that's half of the classes? For P4 booklist I think the only difference would be the 'GetMeThinking' assessment book. Don't remember having to pay for it in P3, unless son paid without me knowing.

Thanks to all for your input; still not happy with the way that business owner is handling it mainly because they need to ‘ask for approval’ from other parents. I have since found another studio that has a SN trained coach (and cheaper too!) so will try out with this other studio instead.

‘Responsible’ in what way? I can understand if kid is violent, aggressive or has some contagious disease which is not the case here. By informing the other parents they are more likely to spread prejudice rather than anything else. There are NT kids who are bullies or downright irritating and rude but no one ever informs the other parents of such children’s behavior when the kid joins the class. If the parents are not happy then just ask to change class or to be seated further away. I’m upset because they advertised themselves as catering to ‘special needs’ yet by their action they show that they are not as tolerant or understanding and maybe just want to ride on the ‘SN’ bandwagon as parents in this category usually will pay an arm and a foot for classes

Want some views on whether I am over reacting: I am looking to sign up my boy for art class to nurture his talent as was pretty impressed with the artwork he brought home from PL. After some research (aka Google) I found an art studio that specifically mentions in their posting in a forum that they are suitable for SN kids and their website also has some mention of classes for SN kids. The website and kids’ drawings look fantastic so I decided to call them to enquire further. I spoke with the boss who mentioned that they are not specifically SN trained (no issue with me as long as they have some experience) but what really surprised me was during the conversation the boss mentioned that they could allow my kid to interact with other NT kids (as I prefer to have class setting rather than 1 to 1) but they will first inform the parents and other kids and get their permission first; they quickly added that this should not be a problem as they have done it before. I was rather disturbed to hear this; here I am telling you about my kid’s condition so that you will not be surprised and so you will be better able to handle him, but do you REALLY need to go announcing to the other kids and parents? If someone observes him they may notice there is something not quite right with him but do you need to stigmatise him in the eyes of other kids and more importantly adults who may not be as "forgiving" as kids. I still quite like the program they offer but as a matter of principle I will probably choose another art studio.

      Hi Couragemom,

What are the therapies & programs that you enrolled your son at? and how many hours per week? previously my son attended ST & OT once a week but he cried even before the session begin until it ends. I found them to be ineffective at all (we tried 3 months). From my point of view, I think that the behaviours & sensory overload need to be addressed first before even trying on ST, OT or both. Please correct me if I'm wrong.
      Hi Fluttershy

From my own experience ST & OT were not useful until my son was able to focus on instructions from the therapists. We focused on ABA in the initial years and only re-tried ST & OT after he was compliant and able to follow the therapists instructions. I have also learnt that you need to keep re-assessing every now and then to determine if your child is continuing to benefit from a specific therapy or if its time to move on to another; there is so much to be done and you need to choose your \"battles\".

Its a long road but take heart, my child has progressed so much but there is so much to be done as well. From not being able to speak at 3 yrs of age, he can now speak in full sentences; our next challenge is to get him to initiate a conversation.

Hi people.. i send my kid to speech and occupational therapy for his ASD. However i wonder if ABA therapy is good too? Anyone tried ABA therapy and what does it really target? I am at a dilemma as i am not sure if it is wise to stretch my kid for extra lesson for ABA.

How old is your child and what challenges do you have with him/her now? We did ABA for about 2.5 yrs till about 5yrs old. For us (and it's different for everyone) it was good as before ABA he could not sit quietly or follow instructions. ABA is a bit 'robotic' but it helped to 'prepare' him to be open to learning. We had gone for OT and ST prior to ABA but it was all just a waste of money as each session was spent trying to get him to co-operate. After intensive ABA he was open to learning and we subsequently restarted ST and OT and it was so much better. We eventually stopped ABA as he was lacking in so many other areas and we needed to concentrate on the other aspects.
