Hi all I would like to ask if the sports CCA take in students who are doing the sport recreationally or they only take those who have trained competitively?

RE: Nanyang Girls' High School [*IP]
I was just told by my girl that the comments by HCL and LA teachers are new additions (blur mom). So maybe yours are late? I heard from my teacher friends that Covid situation means they are working extra hours to put together online learning, hence the delay maybe…

Syllabus outline for the year not available for all graded subjects e.g. Math and Science, yes; Geog, no. There are detailed commentaries from LA and HCL teachers for my girl in her latest Progress Report. I think you are right to expect updates.

RE: All About Parenting Teenagers
The hardest part is getting teenagers to come out of their rooms and/or talk. How was your day? Ok. Do you need help? Grunt. LOL. First of all, I think this is the new normal. Hard as it is for us, teens need to make decisions on their own and we need to let go. Having said that, instead of badgering them, we have to find the right moment e.g. when they are relaxed and in a good mood to keep them engaged. Watch movies with them (we just caught Parasite on cable) and go for nature walks etc… Is easier I guess if you already have a good relationship with them. But even then, I agree parenting teenagers can be a real pain. Suddenly they are sullen, sensitive and rude.

Have you checked with the form teacher if your email is registered with the school? My girl is in Year 2. Last year, at the PTM, the FT checked with some parents not already on her list to confirm their email addresses. When the schedule on WA is given to students, parents will be informed via email so that you can check with your girl if you want to.
Hi
I didn’t receive any email and neither is there anything from the portal.
Will check with the IT department.
Thanks -

Hi sob7,
So your girl is in Rgs? Thank you for your good wishes! Both are really good schools. For us, distance was the main factor.
Old already. Kids all in sec school. Even ‘know’ some fellow forummers after following them over the years… Time to focus on myself, let go in some ways and help the kids in different ways, as they go through teenagehood. All the best to your girl too!! -
RE: Nanyang Girls' High School [*IP]
Hi,
My DD is in year 1. I can’t comment much on the much hyped incident as it did not affect my girl directly.
However, I want to say that in my girl’s one month with the school, the experience has been positive.
Like many other parents, I like the P and find her an excellent role model. She is young, feminine, yet firm and confident.
The school vibes are loving and nurturing. My girl has been reading books recommended by the school to develop a growth mindset and grow in confidence. The focus of the sec 1 ptm was how to help girls be brave and not overthink, as girls are wont to do. The orientation was well run and interesting. There was an outdoor activity at Botanic Gardens and a wonderful campfire.
My girl was admitted via dsa bilingual. She was randomly sorted into a mixed class, but also invited to take part in the Commonwealth essay writing competition and a ch creative writing course. Only I don’t like how there are two exclusive gep classes.
Her classmates are positive as I can see from the class posts on Instagram and they have bonded very well. One or two of her teachers are clearly quite outstanding. Her English teacher recommended a New York Times bestseller to her class and I saw my girl downloading and reading the ebook.
All in all, I feel glad that my girl has chosen Nyghs (she had a second CO offer) and that she is lucky to find a school that is taking good care of her. -
RE: Hwa Chong Institution (High School)
Hi CatMoon,
Thanks for the clarification! There’s not a lot I can do and got to let go, but sometimes he still seems so blur to me, maybe only to me, haha. Yes, that’s what my son said too. I just wanted to be sure so that he doesn’t get started on PW too late, which is very time-consuming, based on previous years’ experience. Yes, I believe the smtp students have since gotten into groups and things are moving along already. -
RE: Hwa Chong Institution (High School)
Hello,
May I know if the smtp research paper replaces Project Work? Also, is the idea for the research paper student-initiated or mentor-initiated?
Grateful if anyone can cast light on the questions! Thank you!
