Thank you. This is very helpful. DS been offered SAP IP. So if complete 4 yrs IP, is it still possible to map over from IP to ACSI anytime before year 5?

IP students do not take O levels, so to transfer to another IP school is not so straightforward. I know of students who transfer, based on school results, school CCA and leadership qualities, and the all important interview. However, the number of such students is small, and if I am not mistaken, ACSI takes in more girls than boys after year 4, including the MGS IB girls.

IMHO, your boy already has a coverted place in IP, and if he is ok with an SAP environment, then he should plan for all 6 years in the school. His tscore is 252(?), so he can still give appeal a shot anyway, with the expectation that if he does not succeed, he can still opt to stay with the SAP school. No harm, only cannot buy uniform nor books yet pending appeal outcome, which is just 1 or 2 weeks' wait anyway. The SAP IP place is still confirmed for him, till and until he chooses to transfer out. I know of transfer cases even in the month of Jauary when school term starts.

Acsi parents need your advice. DS posted to SAP IP . 252+2. Didn't get acsi ip. I called acsi today. Cop is 252. They said no appeal for ip at all. Suggest go express first then transfer.

It's a risk I feel cos what if can't transfer? How do they select yr 2 students to transfer.? And any idea whatare the chances? Why are there more vacancy in yr 3? Do they increase the intake?

acsi express, is this very similar to other express course outside?
The considerations for SAP IP & ACS express will be the difference in school fees and your son's liking for a more Chinese environment, as I presume it's compulsory to do HCL in SAP IP school.

As for ACS express transfer to IB at end of sec 2, it depends on year 1 & year 2 results, plus the HAST high ability test and interview results. Having said that, the school has allocated about 100 places for ACS express to IB places. Not sure if this number is cast in concrete as I do believe the school criteria is the student's suitability for the pre-IB curriculum. You may want to check with the school. There are also Express students who go on to IB after O levels. They also have affiliation points to go to ACJC for A levels.

The school prepares the boys well for O levels as you can see their past years' results.

My feel is - choose the school and curriculum your son is more comfortable with. Of course I am biased as I am more inclined to go for the IB for its broader based curriculum and critical tuning components, but the A levels is also tried and tested and a good choice.

May I know what is the promotion criteria for NYGH?

What happens when a child cant meet the promotion criteria- retain, o level class or promote but subject to fulfilling the condition next yr etc.
Any info is much appreciated. Thank you!
You need MSG of <4 to be promoted each year. Note the weightage for subjects may not be 1. I think languages carry 1.5 weightage but best you check with NY whether my understanding correct. sec 2 who does not meet MSG 4 will be placed in O level class in sec 3. MSG ❤ needed to go to HCI.

• RE: 2014 Request for Advice on Selecting Secondary Schools

Refer to pg 8 of CHOOSING YOUR SECONDARY SCHOOLS FOR ADMISSION TO SECONDARY ONE IN 2015 booklet

section III, chapter 7 School Posting Phase
7.2 In situations where there are 2 or more students with the same rounded aggregate score vying for the last place in a school, they will be posted based on their citizenship status… If there is a tie between 2 Singapore Citizens, the one with the higher unrounded aggregate score will be posted into the school first. If there is still a tie between 2 citizens with the same unrounded aggregate score, then posting into the school will be determined by a computerised ballot where each student is given an equal opportunity.

My DD gets 255+2, may not be able to go to NYGH, so second choice should be St NIC or NJC, SCGS will be 4th.followed by cedar girls and RVHS. Do not know which one to put 2nd choice. Any advise is appreciated. Thanks.

Both schools (St Nic and NJC) are pretty popular, do consider if you should continue to put NYGH as first choice. If your child places NJC as 2nd choice, and if someone with the same aggregate places it as 1st choice, chances are the vacancy will be given to the other 'someone'. Same goes for St Nic.
However, I would suggest putting St. Nic as 2nd choice since your DD still gets to add 2 marks for her aggregate. NJC, on the other hand, is not a SAP school.
Hope this helps! 🙂

It is not true the the vacancy will be given to the other 'someone' who put NJC as 1st choice. The posting is by MERIT, so if your Tscore is higher than the other 'someone', then the system will go down your list of preferences first. That means even if you put NJC as your last choice, and there is still vacancy there, system will post you there AHEAD of the other 'someone' whose Tscore is lower than you, even though he/she put NJC as 1st choice.

List the schools in order of your preference. Just remember that the 3rd-4th choices should be schools with COP at or very close to your Tscore, and the 5th-6th choice should be schools with COP at least 3-4 points lower than your Tscore.
Hi all,

My daughter got a 260 in her psle this year. Is there any chances of her going to RGS as the cut off for last year was 259? or which other good schools should we look out for?
Also on what basis can we get a scholarship in RGS?
would appreciate any feedback and suggestion .
Thanks

Check your daughter's PSLE certificate. There is a perforated slip of paper that tells you whether your daughter has the EESIS (Edusave Entrance Scholarship for Independent School) scholarship. Since her Tscore is 260, she should receive the scholarship. There is no need to apply, the scholarship is automatically awarded once you meet the COP cutoff. This year the cutoff is 257.xxx.

I believe your daughter stand a very good chance for RGS as RGS cutoff usually 1 or 2 points higher than EESIS cutoff.

Hi
just checked the perforated slip. There is no indication of the EESIS scholarship.Only the choice of a third language is shown.
Thanks for your feedback
There is one form called S1 Option form, and another called Eligibility Letter, which states whether your girl is eligible for the scholarship, whether she is eligible to take HMT and Third Languages at secondary school. It is from MOE so I'm pretty sure you should have received it if your daughter has Tscore 260.

Hi

My ds scored 245 (+2).
Is RV or ACS 'O' a far stretch as 1st choice?
Will that jeopardize Nan Hua as his 2nd choice?
Thanks for advise!
I think you stand a better chance for RV since the +2 (HMT) will be counted but not for ACS. Putting RV first will not jeopardise Nan Hua at all. Just make sure in your 6 choices, there are at least 2 schools (3rd, 4th) at or close to ds score, and 5th and 6th choices 3-4 points lower than ds score

Hi,

I am also a RGPS pupil and staying at Bukit Timah appreciate your thoughts
I have scored 258+2 (HMT)

1) RGS (Last year COP 259)
2) NYGH (IP) 261
3) MGS (IB) 256
4) SCGS (IP) 251
5) NJC (IP) 255 (not very keen cause Co-ed)
6) MGS (O) 252

Need help, advice from experienced parents.

Appreciate if parents can help Molang (P6 pupil) in her first 2 choices -
as I am not familiar with how the ordering of these 6 choices work, when MOE computer start to allocate pupils, into different Secondary schools of choice.
Thank you

Molang's dream school is RGS Secondary.

last year (2013) :
RGS Cut off point (at 259) was lower than that of Nanyang Girls High (NYGH) at 261.

should Molang put RGS as #1, or as #2 ?

because if she put RGS as #1 but fail to meet Cut off point (259) :
fail to enter RGS, isn't she also risking NYGH, since NYGH has a higher COP (261) than RGS (259) ?

But another dilemma, may arise.

Suppose this year (2014) : just suppose NYGH COP drop to 260 -
(because overall P6 Sg cohort performance dropped, compared to last year) -

and if Molang put NYGH as #1, RGS as #2,
with her 258 +2 : Molang able to meet NYGH COP at 260, computer allocate her, slot her successfully into Nanyang Girls High.
Then, she unable to enter RGS (her dream school), in dilemma.

So, issue lies in what should be the order of ranking of choices, as #1, #2 ?

Appreciate kind advice.
Thank you, very much

The S1 posting system is like this. At ANY one time, the system is only posting ONE student. The system sorts all students according to Tscores. It then takes the highest student and goes down his list of 6 choices. If the student chooses
1. sch A (cop 240)
2. Sch B (cop 250)

it will post him to sch A FIRST, if there is a vacancy in that school. It does not sort your choices according to COP, BUT ACCORDNG TO YOUR PREFERENCES IN THE LISTED ORDER.

In Molang's case, if she prefers RGS To NYGH, put 1. RGS, 2. NYGH. There is NO risk if she is not successful in RGS. The system will take her next choice, NYGH, and check if there is vacancy. If there is, she will be posted there. If not, it goes to her 3rd, 4th choice..6th choices in the same way. Once she is posted, then the system will go to the next lower score student and the whole process starts again.

This, it is vital that students select their choices in Order of preference. The top 2-3 choices can be higher than your Tscore, but the last 2 choices should be lower (at least 2-3 points lower) than the schools COP. To be realistic, the top 2 choices should not be too far off last year's COP. In my humble opinion, I will only try for a maximum of 2 schools not more than 3 points off my score, the 3rd & 4th choice schools at or near my score, and the last 2 choices 2-4 points lower than my score, to be safe.
