      .

Hi, where (any singapore shops) can we get angora socks ?

      Hi ENS:

I bought mine overseas when my suede shoes couldn't take the Norwegian cold! I believe you could search for it on Qoo10, amazon or taobao.com. Do note that angora rabbit is NOT the same as angora goat. They are 2 diff animals. Angora goat will give you \"mohair\" which is kind of prickly. Angora rabbit's hair is very soft, felts easily, and is 7 times warmer than wool. It is rare because many fashion labels boycott angora.

If you're already wearing those fleece-lined winter boots (like UGG boots), you seriously don't need angora socks, unless you want to go to Russia, Northeastern China, Scandinavia or Canada. Heattech socks should suffice 🙂

On Heattech leggings, do note there are a few types on the Uniqlo racks. One type that they sell during summer is like those Marks & Spencer opaque ones; they are good for HK and TW if you just want to wear a skirt over them. In winter, Uniqlo rolls out their Heattech series leggings (normal and extra warm type). It could be worn under your trousers or pants at sub-zero degrees.

Frankly, anything from 0-10 degrees, you DO NOT need to wear leggings below your pants, because angmohs don't. This is because your hips and thighs are already protected by the trenchcoat, down jacket or windbreaker. Your calves won't be that cold, as you'd be wearing high socks or boots. It's the torso, neck and hands that must be protected from the cold.

But if your parents have rheumatism you might want to advise them to do so.

I suppose if you want to wear them under your skirt at 10 degrees or lower, you must buy the thicker knitted wool leggings from Uniqlo or elsewhere. Ensure there's no lobang at your waistband area, i.e. your stomach mustn't be expose to the cold air coming in from below your skirt. The normal Heattech leggings can only take up to 15 degrees with skirts.

If you're not going to Siberia or Harbin or anywhere that's below 30 degrees, you should not layer those Uniqlo thick knitted leggings over their normal Heattech leggings. You are so gonna get thunder thighs! And your thighs will sweat when you get indoors.

For sub-zero places, I would also standby angora socks (i.e. Rabbit hair socks). Boots must be waterproof with non-slip rubber soles. It’s important to wear those Columbia, Timberland, Dr Martens, North Face type of snow boots to prevent slipping. They all come with insulated insoles (probably fleece or fur), made of Gore-tex (for some brands) and have special tread on their outsoles for better traction on icy surfaces. For DC, buy those with zipper or velcro fasteners, not shoe laces.

If you slipped on slush or ice, you might fracture your wrist, fingers or hip bone, or sprain your ankles. Hidden beneath thick snow could be slippery ice surfaces. So beware if you’re going to trek or trudge in the wilderness. At some convenience stores in Japan and Korea, I think you could buy crampons to attach to your boots, but that’s really too extreme. In developed cities, however, clumsy slips and skids are less frequent, as the main boulevards are regularly ploughed by the local municipal govt.

Also, you must carry your moisturiser and lip balm in your handcarrier at all times. This is because your DC’s legs, arms, necks and backs might become itchy due to dryness. I’d usually slather copious amt of moisturiser on their back. Same for adults.

If it’s really really very cold, you might even want to standby masks for your DC, if you don’t want them to wear balaclavas (those that make people look like terrorists).

Uniqlo’s fleece-lined water proof cargo pants for young and old are very good.

I also bought a lot of 100% cashmere jumpers from Uniqlo. They cost me only $149.90 each.

      Tellymummy:
For those who are travelling to very cold countries during the winter, do you and yr kids change into winter wear (i.e. the thermal wear and jacket) at the airport after landing?

Do you hand carry the winter clothings? Any sharing of experiences? 😄 Thanks!
This is what I usually do when I'm on the plane.

I wear Uniqlo Heatteach camisoles (i.e. spaghetti strap ones) with a light merino wool long sleeve top. Pants is either Heattech series or corduroy. In my handcarrier, I have a 100% cashmere jumper to be pulled over upon touch down, because I don't know if the aerobridge got \"lobangs\" or not (side door ajar, due to delivery of strollers from cargo downstairs), or if the airport in the developing country has an aerobridge at all or not.

In my handcarrier, I'd have Uniqlo ultralight down jacket CRUNCHED into a 25cm thereabouts pouch so it's very compact. This is stowed in the overhead compactment, as I don't need jacket as my blanket. I use airlines' blanket only. But if you want to use that pouch as your head pillow, you may do so.

I'll also put in the handcarrier my gloves, 100% woollen scarf and wear Heattech socks inside my high-cut boots. I check in all beanies. My family don't wear ear muffs. But some of your DDs might want to look cute in photos, so it's up to you. With or without ear muffs, ears must be protected at all times.

For young DC, they will wear Uniqlo Heattech turtle neck inner wear with Heattech fleece pullover (crew neck Fleece). In my handcarrier will be their 100% cashmere jumpers and Uniqlo down jacket (also crunched into a pouch). Scarves, beanies and gloves are all in the handcarrier too. Please let DC wear high cut winter boots with Heattech socks.
