Dear parents, I heard that the school pledge is also changed. All students are taught the new pledge today.
This year P5 promotion to P6 classes will also be changed, not only the name of the class. If any A or B class students not performing up to expectation will be downgraded. Students from other classes who did well enough will go to the 2 top classes next year. There are also some who said it will be subject banded.

RE: Pei Chun Public
No news is good news....
I got the letter!!! ... should I cry or laugh? It is an invitation to see the teacher, not an invitation to attend prize giving ceremony!
I told my boy that I will most probably :spank: him if he brings back this kind of unwanted invitation again! -
RE: Pei Chun Public
any parents here with kids in p5? i m not sure if my ds is telling the truth. practically everyday over the past weeks when i asked, he told me there is no homework… ! i even scolded and questioned him how can that be and told him to stop being so lazy and he still insisted there is really no homework… sometimes he said only 1 or 2 pages of maths… that’s all… is that the same too for your children? i am concerned because over at my dd’s sch, the p5 girls are so busy everyday… even some parents say too much homework… it is so different… is it confirmed that there is no more AS? some parents say there is so it is confusing and also do not know when lessons will start… need to make logistics arrangement…

High Alert - Ambiguous Marking for Science
Parents, please take note to review the marking of the recent past year practice paper, section B. My child’s tutor observed there are several questions that should be correct or at least get 1 mark out of 2 or 0.5 out of 1. However, teacher marked all as wrong and gave 0. As it was only a practice paper, I did not contact the science teacher but taught my child how to enhance the answers to make it more complete.
Teachers followed a standard set of model answers and expect students to answer word by word, exactly the same. However, science is about testing of understanding and as long as the key concept is there, marks should be awarded. It is unlikely that all open ended questions have the same model answers unless students are told to memorize a standard set of answers.
When your child brought home the actual SA2 paper next week, please be sure to review very carefully and ensure they are not being wrongly penalized. Zoom into those questions that are all 0 mark. Ask why 0? Is the answer really totally wrong? Does your child’s answer deserved a 0?
It is best to seek a second opinion on the marking (such as from science tutor), make a list of ‘should be correct answers’, then make an appointment with the school science teacher to clarify further on the marking.
I will be posting some examples of ambiguous marking later. -
RE: [Toa Payoh] Primary Schools
Hi smiley28, in my opinion, between SAP and affiliation, I go for affiliation.
However, with the change in the PSLE grading system, we are also not sure how the affiliation is going to change.
The fear from some of my daughters’ parents is schools may use this opportunity to raise the bar so in the end, it is not going to be that easy to enter the secondary school through affiliation like what it is today.
As for higher Chinese, it really depends on the child. It requires a lot of effort to get just that additional 3 points. If a child is naturally good in languages (particularly Chinese), it is fine. The major concern is if it requires a child to put in significant amount of effort just to get that 3 points, is it worth it? We know it is not guaranteed and that getting a distinction is really tough. More time should be spent in other subjects. In IJ TP, girls will also be offered higher Chinese in upper primary if they do well in standard Chinese.
It is not easy to do well in higher Chinese. I look at my son’s SA1 paper 2 and compare it with other schools, they are tested in 12 different components, all areas and scope tested. The marking for composition is so stringent. I see compositions written by my niece and nephew from other schools, they can easily get 13.5 to 14.5 out of 15 but in Pei Chun, if you can get 12 or 13 /15, it is already very impressive! Anyway the school does not share model Chinese compositions so we are clueless the definition of a well-written Chinese compositions by their standard.
Take your girl to both schools and let her get a feel of the environment. I think most girls will prefer convent schools and in IJ TP. What I like is the warm, caring environment and well-behaved students. -
RE: [Toa Payoh] Primary Schools
Hi Janet! P and teachers are indeed very caring and warm. I am really glad I’ve put my girl in the right school. Generally, I find the girls have good mannerism and are well-behaved.

smiley28:
Anyone applying for Chij or Pei Chun? I'm still undecided on which school to register.
If you follow the statistics, enrolment at Pei Chun has dropped.
I have 2 children - elder boy at Pei Chun and younger one at CHIJ TP.
Go for CHIJ, the discipline is much better. You can be assured your DD will be in good hands and a very conductive studying environment. Academic results is about the same for both schools. Good luck. -
RE: CHIJ Primary (Toa Payoh)
Hi! MyDD is P1 this year and will be affected by the new PSLE scoring system. Does anyone knows how this change affect the affiliation? Currently, as long as the girls get above 200, they are accepted by the secondary division. Next time, does it mean that they need to achieve a certain band which is not yet defined, am I right?

RE: Teacher from Gongshang Primary bullying pupils!
What is the principal doing?
If P is too busy, then what are the VPs doing?
Why must they let things go out of hand then decided to step in?
If I read correctly, many parents already raised the issues before someone decides to blog it, and explode it as nothing (or bare minimum) was being done by the school.
I agreed cctv should be installed in the classrooms.
