Snow Crystal:bichon:DSA Sports RI vs SJI
RI has 2 open trials for applicants and then shortlist from there; whereas SJI shortlists prior to first trial which will be held tomorrow. I don't understand SJI's shortlisting approach without seeing sportboys' skill set.
Can anyone shed some light please?
Thank you.
Are there rankings for your DS' sports ?
If so, usually the coaches and school can see past history, consistency of rankings and already have an idea of which boys they are keen on. Perhaps SJI did not want to waste the time of those whom they are unlikely to consider.
There are very few slots per sports category.
Even for group sports or sports with no ranking, they can only take a few boys.
So perhaps SJI made efforts to apply some stringent preset criteria and narrow down on certain selected boys. SJI coaches may likely have watched the boys compete in primary school and made some mental screening. Maybe SJI doesn't have sports class (?) like RI so they also screen academic results as a first cut. Just my thoughts.
All the best to your DS.
Thanks very much for your reply and thoughts.
Yes, his sport choice has ranking and he meets all the criteria laid by RI & SJI (also in top 4 placing in the Nationals). He was successful in the RI trial but has not received trial invitation from SJI as a shortlisted candidate. It is already past 5pm and tomorrow is the SJI trial, looks like his application is :imdrowning:
