I have just went through the interview at Beacon. What can I say? I like the first impression it gave me.

Hi nz7976, it would be too late for you to apply as PV in Beacon because your son is going to P1 next year. PV starts one year before registration.

Went to view some at 5xx too but nothing caught our fancy. We like the area but not the flats. 4xx, we like the flat but not the area. Haha.

Anyway, looking forward to start my pv work in june/ july. There will be an interview before we are selected right? What sort of questions do they ask?

Yup, I want to be safe too. Already informed the school and I already have the form with me. Most probably taking the recess slot cos it's the only 1 that can fit into my schedule although I prefer the reading programme but its timing clashes with the time I send my boys to school.

Moving to the 45* series in early Feb. The area actually helped me decide the school cos previously I was still searching for a flat, so options were open.

      Hey bigeyedfish,

Yes my twins started P1 in Beacon and so far I like what I have seen of the school. They are big on PE so everyday have 30 mins PE with an additional 30 mins on Tue. So far no CCA so Tue have extra sessions on MT/English/Maths. That is is quite tiring for the kids as they are back only around 4 pm.

I now see more PVs around as compared to the previous years when I was a PV, so I would think if you have fixed on the school, do write to them letting them know that you are interested in being a PV for Phase 2B. Like I always told those who asked me why I did PV inspite of being within 1 km - it's always better to be safe than sorry. Plus you get a feel of the school and can verify that you took the right decision or just move on. So you are now staying in the 45x series?

There are quite a few of us P1 parents in the Beacon thread, so feel free to drop in there to ask if you need anything specific about the school.

      Hi mums and dads

Im back after so long. Too busy with moving and all. Decided to go for Beacon because my new place is just across the road. Less travelling time for the kids. Trying to register as a PV because P1 registration is so unpredictable. Now waiting for the school to get back to me.

      Hi parents,

      waves to preciousjam

Vividlaurel, still remember me? Your twins must have started school already right?

I’m back here since my last posting in April 09. Been quite a long time. My son is due for P1 registration next year (2012 batch) so I have till June to decide where to be a pv. Currently have selected Beacon because it just across the road from my new place. Definitely less than 1km but looking at the number of applicants every year, afraid that if I don’t do pv, sekali <1km also must ballot. Cannot afford to take any chances because I have seen stressful parents’ faces during Phase 2C supp.

Despite the many hearsays we know, lets not make it out to be

a case of general stereo-typing ie. if one or two staff like that,
then all the staff there surely like that. For parents staying only
walking distance to the school, i'd say give the school and yourself
a chance.. we should see for ourselves the nature of the place and
its staffing, then be our own judge. After all, close proximity to own
residence is a plus factor in selecting a primary school for our kiddies.
      Hi buds,
It's true what you have said. It just makes my choosing easier as I get to narrow down my choices.

Hmm, I guess with these feedbacks, I’ll strike the school out and concentrate on the other alternatives.

      Hi everyone,

Didn't know many would be interested. I think it's no secret so I'll just post it here. Not sure if it's in the school's culture or that just some teachers are bochap. But as a kiasumum, I would like a kiasu school also (in terms of producing results)

This was what I sent to Jedamum.

BPPS was my first choice because it is popular and has good academic results. However my colleague was not very happy with the school as compared to SV (her daughter's now in SVPS). She said that BP is not systematic. When her son was in P6, there was no supplementary/ remedial lessons for Mathematics because the teacher only took in failures. Her son only scored 60+ and she had to look for a tuition teacher for him. Furthermore, his CL teacher didn't issue any consent form for extra coaching for CL oral. Those who can come come. Those who can't too bad. She thinks the sch has a bochap attitude. I'm still considering.

Found out from Jedamum that the school doesn't have an open house because the number of applicants have exceeded the number of vacancies all along. Just to compare, SVPS is as popular because there is balloting every year but the school has open houses for a few years now, as far as I can remember.
