wooops i didnt realise you’re a parent haha! so yeahh… I would say its an odd combi in the sense that its a rather uncommon combi and quite little students take it but not like a weird combi… cas phy, chem, math&geog are rather popular subjects actually but to combine all 4 and take them as your subj combi is not popular lolol.m

RE: O Level Results 2013
Jonathan Lim:
@blabla1234 : hi u r a student at NJC rite ? If i were to take the subject combination of H2 for maths , econs and chem , and H1 for geog , is it considered a odd combination?
Yep it's a hybrid combi and hence is quite rare actually. Cas geog and econs are Arts subject. Math and Chem is science subjects. Well not just NJ but fo most of the other JCs it is a rather odd combi. i wouldnt exactly recommend it because being in a rather odd combi puts u in a disadvantage in many ways such as super weird timetables (like end school very much later than the rest and excessive, redundant breaks in between lessons or even a whole day without breaks at all). But ultimately if those subje ts are what you really desire then i think it's still worth a shot!

Heyy. Just giving my 2 cents.Going2School:
Why are your seniors unhappy with NJC?
what i heard from my seniors is that the school focuses on academics alot. but i think that is a good thing. you go jc not to play, is to study. end goal is to go uni right? but i have seniors who say the mugger culture there is not true, is monstly the mainstream students that mug alot, the ip not really.
First and foremost I just wanna say that yeah jc life is one that you certainly cannot play alot and expect to get good grades at the same time. In fact, to even be enrolled into a JC means that you're probably more academically-inclined that the others and you're expected to study really hard for your A levels. I'm always taken aback whenever people start saying that this JC has a mugger culture while another does not because in jc, who doesn't mug!? Well obviously people who are wasting their time not wanting to get good grades for As but I guess majority of the students who choose to go to JC in the first place would mug for their results.
Over to the issue that in NJ mostly the mainstream students are the one that mugs alot and not the IP, I'd like to point out that this may not be entirely true.
It is important to note that the number of mainstream students per batch in NJ is considerable more than that of IP. For the 2011-2012 batch (the one that has just taken their A levels last year), there are 5 IP classes and 20 MAINSTREAM classes. The number of students per class shouldn't very too much from each other so it is reasonable to assume that of the entire cohort of 2011, 20% are from IP and 80% are mainstream students.
It wouldn't be a surprise to observe that mostly the mainstream students mug since the proportion of mainstream students is very much larger than the IP in the very first place!
Being a mainstream student myself, no doubt I can't deny that the mainstream students do mug alot. But at the same time, this does not mean that the IP students don't mug as well. No offence but especially to scholars from China and Vietnam who mug alot as well and constantly do exceptionally well for tests and exams. These scholars are mostly in the IPs and hence who is to say that the IP is freed from the responsibility of NJ's mugger culture?
Ultimately, the point is not to put the blame on which group of students is causing the mugger culture or whatever but in general, it is undeniable that NJ students are really a hardworking bunch of students who will really give their best shot to do their best and meet the high expectations of the school. At the same time, play is definitely NOT LACKING in NJ!!! There are countless of activities and events in NJ that would certainly make one's time there an enjoyable one. It depends on whether the students choose to participate and appreciate all these activities that the school has to offer. -
RE: All About A Levels
hmm staying in boarding is a viable option.
Can wake up very much later because transport time is minimal.
Oh and as much as NJ is concerned, its boarding school is NOT only for foreign students. Well… while all (if not most) foreign or international students do stay on the boarding school, there is still space allocated for locals. In fact NJ has this boarding programme where each level (from JH1 or sec 1 to SH1 or jc1) will have to undergo the programme for a term. compulsory i think. its not just merely accomodation but you get to go through alot of awesome stuff, activities and line-ups as part of the programme. -
