Hi, I would need some advice. I have 3 children and my eldest girl is now studying at St Margaret's. My 2nd girl will be registering for Pri 1 in 2020 and we qualify for phase 2B within 1km of St Hilda's. Would very much like her to study at St Hilda's given that we are staying at Tampines and I have a son born in 2016. But based on the balloting results for this year, it seems that it is difficult to get in. Not too sure if we should start to apply for PV for other schools in Tampines (eg: Poi Ching 1-2 km). :?:

From your post I can see your affiliation is through the Anglican Church.
We had to ballot for phase 2B within 1km this year where historically within 1km is safe. 40 people were balloting for 20 spaces, it was very stressful. The citizen birth rate for 2016 is similar to 2012 so that is probably the statistics you are looking.

Find out from Poi Ching about their balloting stats for phase 2B this year and that will probably be reflective.

You are absolutely right. These can be easily rigged because there is no third party witness. To be 100% impartial, rolling the ball still the best even if it more stressful, nobody can argue it was unfair as it is done in front of everyone.

Not to mention computer randomization is not truly random but only simulated. Depending on what kind of random simulation they used, my goodness, certain numbers can be more favoured than others especially if they used a system thats based on computer clock. Ie, fixed numbers chosen depending on what time it is. All this info only moe themselves will know. Theres a serious lack of transparency in our system.

I also had some of the same concerns about transparency of the computerized balloting system.

However after speaking to friends who work in civil service, they were very sure its closely audited and not possible to \"rig/pull strings\". They said everything in civil service is very closely audited with paper trial.

It seems some schools are willing to provide the distance information while others will give the official line about waiting for MOE website. I feel all schools should publish the distance information so it’s fair for all.

It should be standard to show the numbers so that parents can make an informed decision
I cannot understand why some schools are so secretive about the numbers...
For example if I am grassroots and know that my ballot chances at school A are very risky, I may choose to register at school B instead even if it's my second choice

#1: St hilda's primary via phase 2B (church), but have to move within 1km for at least 2 years
#2: Ngee ann primary via phase 2C, within 1km of my current residence.

I've seen the balloting history and option 1 seems quite safe so that is my preferred choice of school even though it's a lot of money to move/rent.

Both options are feasible basing on the past history. Keep monitoring for any change. You should not be in the correct thread if born 2012. 2018 for 2019 intake?

Hi there, not sure if your child has already entered a kindy.


My son goes to Bethesda (Katong). The principal and teachers are amazingly caring and nurturing. All the teachers and principal know every single child by name!
My son has a lot of separation anxiety when he first started school but with the help and care of all the teachers, he now likes going to school.

I have a neighbour who transferred her kid from St Hilda’s to BKK. She says that academically St Hilda’s covers more ground but her kid enjoys BKK a lot more due the environment.
