You may want to take this into consideration, talk to current and former dentistry students to verify what’s is really on the ground.

If really true, it will be very sad if our kids may have to suffer like that.
Perhaps, not having the WL converted may be a blessing to have dodged a bullet. So please do your own due diligence for the child’s interest. -

How about Dentistry waitlist? Do you know roughly how many are in the waitlist each year and what is the chance of getting an offer?
The number on wait list is not secret, published on NUS medicine portal. The number is 70.
See under \"selection process\"
https://medicine.nus.edu.sg/prospective-students/nus-medicine-admissions-assessment/
The same question was prompt to A/Prof Marion Aw during last year zoom session by NUS with wait list candidates on 8 May 2023.
How many of the 70 will be successful?
The wait list has \"weight\", many in the wait list will not be disappointed. My guess is between 50 to 60.
For 2023/24 NUS intake, total 280 for NUS Yong Loo Lin (Male: 134, Female:146), dentistry total 80 (Male: 31, Female: 49) -

Thanks very much for your advice on the recording of exam pieces! My boy took his grade 8 exam 3 years ago and stopped attending lessons but he still continues to play with the school string ensemble and practises on his own. He thought of trying out the diploma exam early next year so it's better get a violin teacher to coach.Blue Dolphine\" post_id=\"2008310\" time=\"1608217835\" user_id=\"151369:
He doesn't already have a teacher to plan for this? Best to find one you are comfortable with first before planning to do a diploma exam. Trinity would be full one-take recording of 40-50 min depending on whether you are doing ATCL or LTCL.
Just fix a date and have pianist, put your hand phone on a tripod and record straight for the entire duration of the recital exam...
Personally, given only a few months to prepare for your recording, I would rather go with a private instructor - my impression is that can give more personalised training. You have to do programme planning also to select a good balance of repertoire. If the repertoire is not fully from the syllabus list (eg. if the syllabus says to play full sonata but you only want to do 1 movement of it - this too, you need apply for approval - all info and applications are online) ...
.. although if you get a music school with a good 1-to-1 instructor, the advantage is that they have the studio for you to do your recording so you don't have to rent a studio (there are people who record at home too - but you have to see if that is suitable for your family - pets, external noises, etc).
as for which school/teacher, it depends on the location you prefer? Not sure how to comment on that.
Thanks very much phankao! It's very helpful of you to give me so much advice! -

My boy is planning to take the Trinity diploma exam in March, which allows candidates to send in video recording for grading. Is it better to go to a school to take lessons or engage a pte violin teacher. Your suggestions would be most appreciated. Also has anyone done the video recording music exam? Can you please share your experience. Many thanks!

slmkhoo:
Thanks slmkhoo for sharing your girl's experience!
Jumping in although my daughter was RGS Y2-4. My husband and I actually recommended that my daughter not apply for RA in Y3-4 at all (she was asked by 3 different teachers to apply for their subjects - Maths, Lit and History). Partly because she had only joined the school in mid-Y2, and was still establishing herself in CCAs and social circles, and catching up with the Sciences, and partly because we found that the coverage of RA didn't really \"add value\" as it was mostly doing some A level work. We felt that if she was going to do it later, why the rush? She eventually took Chem RA in JC and H3 Econs, which we felt was better \"value\" as it was stuff she was less likely to cover later or might help in university applications. Personally, the real value of RA is in the doing, not the subject. If the student can cope with the added workload and slightly different way to studying, that is the real benefit. So interest is more important than content, in my view, and I wouldn't worry about your son's choice. We left the choice of subject to our daughter (her father was a mathematician so would have liked her to take Maths...) and she was already quite sure even then that she wouldn't want to pursue Chem at university, but she was interested enough at that point to take it. We reckon that the training of the mind is the main objective of RA. She's studying Econs now.Blue Dolphine:
Hi, iRabbit,
Thanks! The education system is so different from my time so I really don't know how to advise my boy. My hubby & I decided to leave it to him to make the choice since ultimately he is the one who is going to do the subject.
My boy decided to chose Geo. Though I am a little disappointed cos in my heart I hope he would choose Math. He thinks that my thinking is out-dated. He said the world needs critical thinkers to solve real world problems in future, not another Math teacher or professor, the computer can do that job :heresmyfish:
Didn't know the Math weightage is double is year 3. So looks like Geo is a safer choice.
Thanks always for giving me some advice!
Cheers
