GoodDad:Yes, I was one of the \"victim\". Dad, Mum and DS nearly want into depression during last year DSA process. Happy that it is over now. At least my DS is happy in his sec school now and doing well.Yes, GEP boys have higher chance to get DSA to RI compare to mainstream students, but based on last year result, only about 50%-60% get it. Some via DSA and some via S1 posting.trileets:I understand that alot of parents here say that GEp boys have a high chance of getting DSAed to RI. As for the minority who were unsuccessful, what were the likely reasons?
Thanks!
Altogether RI takes in about 450 year one students. 225 is for DSA.(I think someone will not agree with me. RI is an Independent School. They can take in any number of DSA students they like. To my understanding since DSA has started, RI has not accepted 100% year 1 students via DSA)
Year 2012 there are about 500-550 GEP P6 students. There are about 350 GEP boys. If all 350 GEP boys apply DSA to RI, about 150 will be rejected
If you have read last 2 years posts you will understand that RI only issue CO(confirm offer) for those GEP boys with P6 SA1 result above 80%. (last year there were students who scored 80.x only offer a WL)
In summary, if a GEP boy P6 SA1 result between 77.5% - 80%, most likely he will be offer a WL(Waiting List). Below 78% most likely will be rejected.
The SA1 result is one of the most important factors for GEP boys to get CO or WL from RI. Other achievement is not that important. GAT and interview is just a procedure. It will take into reference only when necessary.
I have been through the TOUGH DSA process last year. I totally understand what is it all about. The stress, worries, happiness, sadness ā no words can describe. All the ups and downs during 2nd half of 2011.
Good luck and God Bless.

May I know what is the criteria for year 4 IP students to go to year 5 IBDP? How many did not make it in year 2011?
You're welcome!Zann:
Thanks autolycus! So am I right that the distribution to IP or Non-Ip depend on PSLE t-score and for those IP students who do not make it to IBDP, do they all proceed to ACJC only? I guess unlike those with 'o'level are able to apply other JC , am I right?
The IP/non-IP distribution depends on other things besides PSLE T-score, but it is certainly a major determinant. The PSLE T-score only really decides who can enter the school (apart from those DSAed in). The whole process (as always) is more complex than it looks, and is never made completely transparent.
For IP students who do not make it to the IBDP, they may attempt to make lateral transfers to other places besides ACJC. Those with O-levels can indeed apply to other JCs; they can even apply back to the ACSI IBDP, but without bonus points.
What happen to those year 4 IP students who cannot make it to IBDP? They do not have O level. -

So they will skip 3 days of lessons ?
From the program, the students only missed lessons on whole of 2nd day and 2 hours on the 1st and 3rd day.
To my understanding, those who get invited already received the information. For year 1, to what I know, class 1.12, 1.13 and 1.16 students are invited.Blur Dad:
Any update on the in house GEP camp next week ?
When will the students and parents be informed ?
And it's during weekdays right ?
So the students attend school as usual but stay overnight in school ?
In summary, the GEP camp is some outdoor activities at East Coast Park and in School. No stay overnight and the dismissal time for the 3 days are the same at 2.40pm. -

Slack?? Maybe there were less homework for term one. No project work yet. Only some work sheets and class tests. However, DS come back home almost 7pm everyday besides Thu, he looks more tire then in primary school.CSN:
Haha, when I asked my boy recently what is it that he likes about the school, he told me that he likes it because his general feeling is that a lot of the students (he did not say teachers) are slackers like him and he simply loves it! On a serious note, I am really getting worried  as I was hoping he could be surrounded by the more diligent ones to have some positive influence so I cannot place too much hope in that? Are the ones in the \"O\" level track a lot more \"slack\" than the IB track? That seems to be what I hear from other parents. Autolycus, would appreciate your sharing given your initmate knowledge of the school and its ethos. Thanks.
Slack ?? I am happy to hear that !! :imcool:
Finally there is time for them to have a real education other than just going through drills like in primary school ! :imdrowning: -

Thank you for your reply.
GEP status doesn't continue over unless you're in a GEP or SBGEP class in secondary school. So it would be for those in any of the current GEP classes.Blur Dad:
Hi autolycus
May I ask, you mentioned \"current ACS(I) GEP students from Year 1 to Year 4\", may I know those ACS(I) GEP students are those study in IP GEP class? Or those GEP students who still holding the GEP status from primary school?
May I know which class in year one is GEP class? Is it Class 1.12 and Class 1.13?
Am I right to say that all students in those 2 classes will attend the GEP camp and other students in Class 1.14 - Class 1.17 are not invited to attend the camp even they are GEP students in Primary school? -

Hi autolycus
ACS(I) was one of the first secondary GEP centres and the last to carry an official GEP class. Currently it runs SBGEP (school-based GEP). The GEP camp has been a tradition for more than 20 years now, a short annual enrichment experience which teachers plan around a given theme. Each year's camp is meant to bring together the current ACS(I) GEP students from Year 1 to Year 4 for some time together, while also providing separate events for each year.Blur Dad:
I understand there will be a GEP camp from 28th - 30th March. May I know what this camp is all about? Is it for GEP students only? Who in ACS(I) are GEP students? Base on class or GEP status from primary school? Who can attend this camp?
Hope someone can help.
Thank you

My friend transferred out of this school. He said teachers and students were both very slack.
Can you elaborate more?
