Hi, can anyone share how is the school's recent A level results? Such as average RP etc? Thanks!

The college never release such statistics, only announce some subjects percentage pass higher than national percentage pass.

      :thankyou:

      Hi,

My daughter is taking O level in 2019. She struggles with her humanities(Geography, History & SS). I found Humanities Hub online in City hall offering tuition services. Does anyone have reviews about that center? Are there any good tuition services available around Buangkok area for Humanities?? Appreciate your reply in advance.

      Many Thanks

      I've sent you a PM

Can you also kindly PM me the same too? :thankyou:

    • RE: Useful Tips for JC Students Struggling with GP

      JerielTY:
      Hi Everyone,

I graduated from RI in 2016 and I would like to share my journey for getting A for GP in A Levels.

GP consists of 2 parts, Paper 1 and Paper 2. Both papers are scored to a max of 50 points each. To get an A, you need 70%. It is understood that essay writing is extremely tough so my strategy is to focus a lot more on Paper 2, which are the Comprehension and Application Questions.

Paper 2: In Comprehension Questions, you can actually categorize questions into: para-phrase, reading between the lines, opinionated, etc.

Para-phrase questions are actually majority of the Comprehension questions. E.g \"In your own words...\". The question wants you to find the part of the passage which contains the answer and paraphrase with synonyms. So, the key is to find an ACCURATE REPLACEMENT of the word in the passage. Accuracy is key. There are many synonyms to a word but the intensity of the word must be kept. E.g \"Happy is not the same as overjoyed\". To be frank, you do not have to understand the passage at all to answer this question. If you know that the answers are somewhere in this paragraph, you can literally paraphrase the whole paragraph. Now you know the importance of paraphrasing, here are some tips to improve on it. Download a dictionary and thesauraus on your phone. Any time you read something and you are not familiar with the meaning of the word, search it up and write down on a notebook. Also, if you have done enough papers you will realise that there are some common words that will always turn up.

For questions that require you to read between the lines, you will slowly develop this after more practices.

For Application questions, the examiners want to know what is unique about Singapore. You can give personal anecdotes (you can get away with lying about that overseas school volunteer project you never participated or that old lady you helped).

If you find my tips helpful and want to know about how to improve in Paper 1, drop me a text and I will share it for free. I do not want to share so much if nobody finds it credible or useful.
      :thankyou:

    • RE: Cruise - royal caribbean

      hnghng:
1st time for cruise to Klang & Phuket on 8 Dec 2016.

May I know for formal dinner, can kid wear the T-shirt, jean & sport shoe?
      Thanks.
Can. If worried just bring a sweater/jacket along.

Take note to pay attention to the Cruise Compass (daily programme sheet). Usually day 1 have a parade by madacasar characters which will not be repeated.

Go for all the sit down dinners and night shows. In my opinion they are good. But if u missed the shows, it will be repeated on tv in the cabin the next day i think.

I recall there is breakfast with cartoon characters, meaning you can sit close to see their performance. But u need to call to make reservations the day before. First come first serve.

IMO, no need to go for the paid land tours at phuket. Because they will bring u to see nuts factories or temples (waste of time and boring for the kids). Instead, just get free tickets to go ashore, and there are many activities by the beach -- massages etc. Or u can take a short taxi ride to a nearby big mall too (http://www.jungceylon.com/) you can ask the crew about it for more details too. Can go for the facials there which i recall was very cheap.

Nothing much at port klang. We only alight to let kids buy chewing gums..

      Hope the above helps.

      Thanks for your replies!

      To Jennifer,
Yes will be considering West Spring & Zhenghua depending on DD results. I understand that they have shifted back to the old location as the upgrade has been completed, thus it is only 1 or 2 bus stops away.

      To Un-kiasu,
I agree with you that all schools has their fair share of vulgarities & bullying (even in good schools). Would appreciate if you can share more info (pros and cons) about being a student there.

      And also…
How is the homework load for express stream?
How is the class environment? is it conducive for learning/studying? Are the students rowdy or disruptive during lessons such that teachers need to spend lots of time scolding/controlling the class instead of teaching?
Are bullying severe/rampant in school? My DD isnt very sociable thus she got picked on quite a bit during primary school by both girls & boys.
What time does class ends on normal days & on CCA days?

      Thanks!
