Hi, IJ TP is a great school! We chose this school due to its proximity to home and I had wanted dd2 to do O lvls.

My dd2 is not an affiliate so she was a little apprehensive about making friends and fitting in. But the affiliates are such a friendly and genuine bunch! Before entering IJ sec, we heard so many negative comments from all the neighbouring schools and even from their own pri school affiliates in TP. When we got in, we realised it was all just a load of crap! I think the pri sch side in TP has alot of misunderstanding about the sec sch side lol!
Dd2 is in 1/1, her classmates hv t-scores 247 and above. They come from all the different IJ affiliates (not only TP) and other different pri sch. Her teachers are very nice and they do help the girls in adjusting to sec sch life.
As for someone’s complaints about teachers here not teaching well, this is not unique to IJ : ) My older two are in IP, they will tell you their teachers ‘do not teach at all’
So far, I am seeing a very structured and organised curriculum coming from IJ. In fact, their Maths curriculum is pretty challenging. My dd2’s English has improved alot due to this school’s strength in English and emphasis on Literature. I like the fact that they hv much opportunity for the girls to hone their public speaking skills, which is so important in the O levels and JC’s PW now.
Looking at their intake and their eventual O level results, you can see the school has done a wonderful job.

Thia is great sharing! From you message I gathered one important info, the fact that several students went into CHIJ TP Sec School from non affiliated schools, means that there are indeed sufficient quota allocated for this? Because I am at first worried that if all the express places are taken up by affiliated students who qualify from T-scores of 200 and above, then the limited 5 express classes will be filled by affiliated students alone and nothing left for non affiliates. I wonder if there is a strict quota reserved for both categories and if MOE cares to manage this quota?

Hello! I am a student from CHIJ and i would like to tell you not to worry 🙂 This school was not my first 3 choices but i still gained admission in it. I have a friend who put this as her last choice and got in, so that shouldn't be a big concern 🙂

Hello, I am new to this forum. Would like to check if anyone has any information about CHIJ TP in terms of their approach towards academics as well as nurturing the girls?

In addition, how is the school's focus on Tennis? My daughter has been playing tennis and she is keen to pursue tennis if she qualifies for the school based on results.
Tennis is not bad in IJ! We win most of the competitions & plus point, all Tennis girls are extremely athletic! I have two classmates who are in Tennis, and they are able to run so fast during track meets and all.

      Hi btsfangirl,

i attended the meeting yesterday for sec 1s.
was informed that drama is compulsory for sec 1-2. there will be individual, group and even written exams conducted. the teachers in charge are presently going for training to get the drama elective program ready by next year. it's still early to tell. in any case, i will check with you. thanks in advance.
yeap! Drama is compulsory for sec 1-2 and it gives the students an insight about how each lesson is conducted. Yeah, sec 1 is too early to tell if your daughter wants to take DEP. Maybe sec 1 end of the year, your daughter might have a choice already. Just curious, what cca is your daughter in? is she in theatre?

However , if she already takes higher chinese, aep/mep etc; and doesn't have the passion for performing & focusing, i do not suggest that she take dep as it is a very intensive subject to take for o level as there is much more in standing in the spotlight in the amazing world of theatre. in theatre , we learn how to work as a team , to create an breathtaking piece for competitions, exams etc. :rahrah:

to take drama as an elective subject for o levels would require a lot of time involved. though she likes to perform, i don't think she can go into that intensive level of involvement. thanks for your advice.

np! If you would like to know more just drop me a message 🙂

    • RE: Drama Elective Programme

in my sch ( chij tpy ) , drama is a subject for sec 1 & 2. in sec 3, you have to go through auditions to get into DEP. DEP means taking drama as an o level subject. yes indeed, it is more than just being a drama mama & mediacorp-like thing. we are focused on theatre studies , and its not only acting involved. there's lighting, sound, makeup, costume, crew etc in every play, thus we must apply this into our theatre study also. many people have this misconception that as long as ur loud & speak with a rich bank of vocabulary , you can make it in drama & score As for drama exams. That is not the case. there are many other aspects in Theatre Studies, and if your daughter is really interested, and if by Sec 2 EOY she can attain a A2 and above, she can consider to take dep. :rahrah:
