RE: IP vs O level
Most IP JCs, including RI, HCI, ACSI have a separate intake for JAE students after their O levels. A couple, like Dunman High and River Valley High donβt take in JAE students. Neither do specialist IP schools like NUSH, SOTA.
Thanks jtoh. Would u know the % of total places set aside for JAE students for the JCs? Or its up to each JC to decide? -
RE: IP vs O level
As IP program leads the child to the top JC that is partnering with the IP school, does that mean O level child will not be able to enter that top JC as the slots would have been taken up by all the IP students?

Some P6 Track & Field boys who participated in 2016 Nationals have received an envelope from RI.
Should be invitation to attend a talk by RI to let them know what RI offers

Thanks for ur advice! So means for sports DSA only need to go for trial and no need to prepare the documentations?bubblebath:
I read in some of the postings that for DSA application, we need to prepare certificates and proof of results. For sports, how does that work? Cos the child only gets physical medals and trophies.
From what I know, most of these kids are not just talented but also ranked at national level, or they could be either headhunted or recommended by their school/own coaches to the sec schools.
Unless they are already very well known, I guess most still need to go thru some sort of trial. -

I have not witness such scenes before but I'm sure they must be painful to watch. The kids must have felt extremely stressed out and their self confidence will take a beating cos they cannot perform up to the expectations of their parents and coaches.About DSA via sports.... I once saw a young girl practising bowling under the coaching of a gentleman, likely her personal coach, till quite late at night. Honestly... she was not exceptionally talented in that but she just kept at it....ball after ball after ball.... and I can still remember all that disappointment on her face and that gentleman's face whenever it didn't happen which was like 90% of the time...
Merely my own guess then... training for DSA? If she was not exceptionally talented, then why bother? Of course I could all mistaken...
Just curious...has anyone come across kids training for some sports which they are not really talented in just for DSA purpose? -

Oh My Gosh:
Caveat... I am speaking of a top girls secondary school. Not sure if it applies to other schools.....
Thats interesting! I never knew schools would allow them to do that!!! :shock:bubblebath:
Team sport, DSA ,non DSA similar training hours.
Btw a top girls school allows 'customization' so the child can choose to skip PE and even Aesthetics (home econs) classes if she so desires, freeing up more time for the child to concentrate on her studies.
Do not hold me to it but my observation is that those sports DSA students who put in effort in their studies are coping quite well.
Hi Zulu, are you able to name this top school?

Frankly, many sportsman are very smart and good in their schoolwork, given their great determination and strength. However, with the shortage of time, their schoolwork may have to take 2nd place.
I agree that sportsmen are very disciplined and determined because of the way they are being trained.
I would like my gal to have a balance between sports and studies. Studies can take a back seat some times during national competiton season and to catch up on it later. However, not sure if the school environment will allow that. After all, top schools are known to be super competitive. -
