    • RE: All About Teaching and Learning Phonics

      Thanks for sharing, Tamarind.

I recently have a very bad experience with a phonics tutor that goes by the name June. She has been in and out of my house for the last 2 years; first tutoring my elder boy till he entered Pri 1 and now my younger son who will be attending Pri 1 next year. Work-wise, she is average but her manners are appalling. Sometimes, she is late for a good whole hour and on a couple of occasions, didn’t even show up and gave me some excuses at the very last min. And when she is punctual, she sometimes eat her lunch while teaching my son and asks my helper for sauces, mayonnaise, etc etc and also to turn on the aircon. It will often be a good 30mins before she starts her lessons proper. She will also happily decide to extend the typical lesson from 1.5 to 2 hours. One time, I was late in transferring her fees by one day, she text me and asked if I have problems paying her. Since then, she began talking to my 6 years old about his mum not paying her during lessons. When I told her to stop, she denied it vehemently. After a month, without any notice, she just didn’t turn up anymore. Hope you parents out there do not encounter such irresponsible tutors. Teaching our kids at home ourselves can be a really good option!
