Finish the service first? Cos nephew did that few years back. He said it is so disruptive. He should have completed the service. Did not ask further his reason cos we meet up on CNY and was very busy.

RE: All About Piano Lesson Costs
Hi can pm me to discuss?
Hi,
not sure if I’m allowed to post here. Just sharing the rates I actually charge (market rate based on my knowledge). -not promoting or advertising for myself in any way.
I’ve been teaching piano at a music school for more than a year and have been teaching since 2011.
I travel to the student’s place for private lessons (but I charge based on market rate of students travelling to teacher’s place instead)
For pop/leisure piano, I’ll charge based on the difficulty of the pieces and fees would increase as the level of difficulty progresses. [similar to graded ones]. Starting fees is $35/hour.
For ABRSM graded exams, the fees I charge are as follow:
Beginners - $120/month for ½ hour/lesson (inclusive of Theory)
Grade 1 - $145/month for 45 mins/lesson (inclusive of Theory)
Grade 2 - $155/month for 45 mins/lesson (inclusive of Theory)
Grade 3 - $165/month for 45 mins/lesson (inclusive of Theory)
Grade 4 - $180/month for 45 mins/lesson (inclusive of Theory)
Grade 5 - $210/month for 1 hour/lesson (inclusive of Theory)
Grade 6 - $230/month for 1 hour/lesson (excluding Theory)
Grade 7 - $245/month for 1 hour/lesson (excluding Theory)
Grade 8 - $275/month for 1 hour/lesson (excluding Theory)
The reason for steeper increase in fees from beginner to G1 and G4 to G5 is due to the increase in lesson duration.
I do trial lessons (pro-rated. i.e for beginner would be $120/4 = $30 etc)
And below are some information about how lessons are based.
- Fees will be collected on 1st week of the month.
- Lessons per month will be on a 4 lesson basis. (eg. if there are 5 weeks, there will be no lesson on the 5th week) However the 5th week can be used for make-up lessons, if applicable.
- Flexibility - Should ample/sufficient/reasonable amount of time is given, a makeup lesson can be arranged. Usually, its really dependent on the parents. If parents are flexi with the teacher, generaly, the teacher will be more flexible too (it’s a 2-way relationship)
- Following how music school works, for every 3 months, there will be a paid day-off for the teacher. i.e 11 lessons in 3 months. If a public holiday happens to fall on a lesson within the 3 months, the holiday will be taken as the 12th lesson. In other words, it will be 11 lessons for every 3-months’ fess paid regardless.
do note that all above are excluding material cost
And I’ll generally tailor the course to the student’s as well as parent’s needs. E.g. if the parents are more into exam pieces, I’ll drill techniques a lot more. on the other hand, if the parents wish to use piano as a mean to build the kid’s self-esteem, I’ll talk to the kid and find out his/her interest and find relavant pieces suitable to the student’s level. That way they’ll generally be produder to ‘show-off’ to their parents what they have learnt, be more interested, and hence also increase their progression speed. -
