RE: Kong Hwa
mummy so kiasu:
Some good statistics u have collected. I am staying in sengkang as well but doubted letting him go on the train alone in the first year... The ironical fact is that unless u r that early or late to avoid the jam, the mrt may be faster than driving. Perhaps erp for kpe may be started real soon. The traffic is getting worse by the day. Imagine with the new condos and flats coming online.
It seem that taking MRT is 40 mins whereas taking school bus pick up time is 5.40am. The kid does not have to get up so early if travel by car or MRT comparing to school bus.SharonL:
I'm staying in SengKang as well. I've registered my son under Phase2A2.
Travelling time (by car) from Seng Kang to Kong Hwa is about 20mins.
By Mrt (Buangkok MRT) to Kong Hwa (Dakorta), including walking, is less than 40mins. -

RE: 2yrs+++ should put her on kindergarten/ childcare?
Large families and kampong way of life with lots of playmates are now rare - extremely. Even working parents are having lesser time with our kids. Ironically, this is to better provide for the kids.
We decided that sending our young ones to childcare was better than spending every day with grandparents and domestic helper. The young ones are so full of energy and tedious for the elder to play catch up.
We started with half day and then moved on to full day. Do observe that the little ones learn more after converting to full day.
Do be warned of the "side effects" of sending the little ones to cc. Coping with wave of illness when they build up their immunity when exposed to other kids. -
RE: Carpe Diem
Not sure about this centre but my boy is with the Carpe Diem at Watten Park. They use Letterland.

RE: SHD SEND CHILD TO NORMAL CHILDCARE OR BRANDED CHILDCARE?
AppleCrumble:
Well Said!!! :goodpost:Hi, hyperbunny.
As a fellow mother of 2 kids who are currently in primary schools, I hope my sharing would be of help..
It's understandable that every parent wants the best for his child. But I really feel that, instead of embarking on so many 'intelligence enhancing' stuff with your DS, you should just let him play. Kids at this age learn best through playing than through formal and structure teaching. You should spend time discovering your child's temperament and bend and understand him better. Some kids learn best through doing while others through hearing or seeing. Every kid has an unique learning style. Discovering his learning style will help you to help him learn better. That's the main reason why the same set of teaching tool is effective on one child and not another.
Your child has only 1 childhood, so please let him enjoy these precious years.
You are right, you can do a lot when you have only 1 kid. When #2 comes along, you would not be able to spend that kind of time with your #1.
As for me, my DH and I put our 2 kids in a church-affiliated childcare centre because of our faith. It is housed in a void deck of a HDB block and very near our home. No frills nor thrills. Looking back, we were glad of our choice because the teachers there were firm but caring. Our kids had a fabulous time learning (mornings) and playing (afternoons). We also made it a point NOT to send our kids to any enrichment classes except for Chinese (as both of us come from English-speaking homes). As working parents, we wanted to spend as much time with our kids on weekends playing and bonding rather than ferrying them from one enrichment class to another.
Our kids are now in primary school and doing very well. Don't think they are disadvantaged in anyway despite playing a lot during their formative years.

RE: Infant Care / Childcare
kiasu-tweety:
I tend to agree that babies up to 18 months are best cared for by parents/grand parents. Apart from bonding and building immunity, Also cutest ... before the terrible two ...I do not recommend infants to leave parents' arms, especially mother, before they reach at least 18 mths old. Unless both parents need to work desperately...
Child-care (from 18 mths old onwards) is fine, but for infant-care, mother is the best person to take care of her baby.
Nevertheless, most of us are helpless .....
you may also want to pop by agape and carpe diem at kallang. both are new and clean. of course the infant teachers are as important if not more. -
RE: Carpe Diem
google and found that they have a facebook page. comments anyone?
