    • RE: All About Schools With Good Support For Special Needs Kids

      Alin:
I am planning to locate my kid in zee juniors due the need for intervention. May i know how is their mainstream preschool being carried out? Read various reviews (from both extreme) and am now in splithairs..Cheers.

Some parents think that Zee’s mainstream cirruculum does not adequately prepare their children for primary school. My friends to,d me that their kids have been exposed to number bonds, simple fractions, composition and comprehension in K2.
While Zee does teach additions, subtractions, composition and comprehension but these are at slower pace and simple worksheets.

It depends on what you want for your child. For me, I was alright with it, especially when my kid enjoyed school and the teachers are really caring.
I’m not in a hurry to put him off school and my decision was proven right when during his primary school orientation, the principal kept stressing on not sending kids to tuition because kids get rowdy and distracted in class when they have already learned the syllabus outside.

And in the 4 years, my son was there, they had the same team of teachers, low turnover rate as compared to his previous school, the teachers change every few months.
Zee also had the odd case of HFMD occasionally but never had to shut down as the school is quick to react. In his previous school, they shut down twice, each time for 2 weeks within 1 year.

Amy overall experience with Zee has been good, hence will recommend it if you like the more relax pacing.

I have a special needs child, wondering if Primary or Junior will be better?

I’ve heard Primary is really good with support for kids with special needs but I’m worried about the academic part.

Junior seems to be not as competitive? I just want my Son to complete his primary school with fairly reasonable results, not expecting the sky or something.

      Opinions would be welcomed! Thanks!

      Auroa_Sun:
      hi,

my son is 4 years old and undergoing speech therapy (speech delay) with KK since last year.

He is also seeing a psychologist since march this year as he is showing some behavioural issues at home and in school. Also showing signs of ADHD but as he is too young, pyschologist said will wait till he is older to confirm.

Have changed 2 schools and current school feels he is not benefiting fr the program and now need to look for another school.

We are thinking of sending him to a special schools. Psychologist have given us a list of the special needs school. She also mentioned that it's not necessary to go to a special needs school but need a school which have routines, boundaries and strict discpline.

Currently looking at Kits4Kids, YWCA educational support unit and Zee School house. Any parents who have kids there? Can share views in the schools? Thank you.
I strongly recommend Zee Schoolhouse! My son attended their School Readiness Programme and I like that they have mainstream classes as well. So the teachers also integrate him into the classes.

He's now in K1, making good progress. The teachers are really caring and they often whatsapp me on the going-ons in school.

      Fees are a killer.

My son attended Zee Schoolhouse in the east area. They have another at Dunearn Road, I believe. They have EIP and School Readiness Programmes and also the mainstream classes. What I like about the school is as they have usual classes so my son could spend sometime integrating into mainstream.

Today, he is able to be integrated into K1 and he enjoys it. They still work with him and update me on his progress. Couldn’t recommend the school enough.

Only thing is school fees are a killer.

    • RE: [Bedok/Katong/Marine Parade/Siglap] Preschools

I’m usually a lurker here but decided to write something today. My son, in K1, this year is suspected to be a special needs child. When his previous playground informed me to transfer him out, I was devastated. After searching around, we found Zee Schoolhouse and brought him in for assessment. They have infant care, play groups, nursery, kindergarten and intervention programmes.

So we enrolled him in the intervention programmes. After 1 year, he could join the normal Nursery classes.
And now he is at Zee Junior, in K1, as Zee Schoolhouse didn’t have K1 classes.

Zee Schoolhouse and Zee Junior are near to each other.
To be honest, I was extremely apprehensive when I first visited the schools as they look run-down and not as spiffy as other schools in the east area. Plus they had a lot of foreign teachers. But I didn’t have a choice so we went ahead.

And it’s the best decision we’ve ever made. The teachers are really caring and even whatsapps frequently to update on the situation. In fact, they were the ones who initiated giving me their numbers as I’m not the kind of patent who hound teachers day and night.

When he misses school, his teacher will call or message to ask if he is going to school.
And I believe its coz they also offer intervention programmes to special needs kids, hence the teachers probably picked up some kids-handling skills from the therapists. And all of them are extremely patient.

I do spot checks occasionally and always find the teachers to be engaging the children. Whereas in his previous school, it seems chaotic at times. Food is really nutritious too, with vegetables and even green bean soup for tea-time. His previous had like nuggets and sausages most of the time!

They also have tie-ups with music, abacus, speech/drama specialist, where you just pay extra and and everything is done in school. Don’t have to ferry the kids all over the island for enrichment classes.

Their progress report is amazing, extremely personal and can see that the teachers spent a lot of effort on it. It’s not just single liners, then they ticked off boxes.

Can consider the schools if you’re living in the area.

Can anyone knows about this Montessori @ Katong shopping centre? How are the teachers and environment over there? Thought of enrolling both my children at the centre because its walking distance for my children and helper. Please response. Thank you

My son has been with them since play group and we absolutely love the school! The teachers are very nice and caring and extremely patient too!

    • RE: All About Affiliations between Pri & Sec Schools

How can I find out which are the ‘full schools?’ Is St Hilda’s primary and secondary considered full schools?

So if I studied in the secondary school but not the primary, does it mean my kid can get priority to the primary school?

If I studied in the secondary school and am an alumni, can my kid get into the primary school though I never studied there?

    • RE: All About Getting Priority Registration

If I studied at the secondary school, can my child have priority during the registration for the primary school?

For example, if I studied at ACS Secondary but didn’t study at the primary school, would I be considered under the phrase 2A2?

      Thanks.
