My son got scouted at primary 1 to join CCA school team. School ends at 1:15pm. After which they will assemble at the hall, at the hall will have school bus line, parents pick up line and finally, morning star line. By the time he goes

For morning star, already 1:30pm, they start serving lunch. Then by the time he eats, dunno what time, and by the time 1:45pm, he's considered late. So after a few times late in P1, he got kicked out of CCA school
Team and got put in recreational team. So in my opionion, CCA is not recommended in P1, until he is very used to looking at time and not be late.

Thanks for letting me know!! I will keep that in mind. DH is so excited for ds to start cca instead of talking abt other important stuffs in Sch, haha.
Wondering whether is it Sch ends at 1.15pm everyday? Any day is a later dismissal?

      Yes. It ends 1.15pm daily.

      Hi mummies n daddies

Can anyone advices me whether does sgps start cca for p1? DS is gg in next yr. need to sort out logistic if any. Can I know what the timing for sch as well? Thanks!
Yes they have selected few CCA for P1, such as school band, art lesson, Badminton, as far as I can remember.
The CCA is optional too. If you are worried the child can be overwhelmed and tiring, then you could choose to not let him join for CCA first and wait till they are adjusted to the primary school schedule.
Hi, we were one of the parents who participated in the balloting process. It was nerve-wrecking but we are glad to get a spot at the end of the process! Looking forward to my daughter entering P1 real soon!
Thanks for your encouragement. Looking forward to it too. Anyway, when will be the rough dates for Orientation etc?

It will be on 9th Nov 2013

From the last few posts read, the 2012 P1 parents seem very stressed up and hope that their kids are entering into the right school. To that I say, relax. I was the same when I was in your position. Which parent would not be concerned? Even if your kid entered a top school, you too will have concerns and stress even if it may not be the same ones. Try to let go. They are growing up. I believe you'll be pleasantly surprised at how fast and independent these kids become after they enter P1. The school boys in the school have so far been very helpful and kind to my son. Hope this post gives you some relief.
:goodpost: totally agree! Parents seems to be overly stressed and think if it's right or wrong choice to put the kids in the school they have chosen or allocated. it's more important on how parents can build a good foundation for learning and encourage them to learn with inquisitive mind.

    • RE: Star Learners

my 2 kids are happy in starlearners@sembawang. Supervisor and teachers are friendly and responsible., to my knowledge, teachers who are teaching both my kids do give impromptu update of my kids progress which i value.

also, the activities, in school and excursions are well plan.

They have a school Facebook page as well to keep parents updated of the childrenโ€™s learning and school activities.

the only concern you might have is probably transport to and fro for your child as they are located in landed properties.

    • RE: Which is better, same-sex or mixed school?

Husband and my ideal was to go for a co-ed school that benefits our 2 kids, a boy and a girl. However, after the circumstances of our P1 registration and choice we've made, the elder boy is going to a boy's PriSch.

That leaves to us for another round of P1 registration anxiety for our gal in 2013.

Thinking of it now, I feel the foundation of the child's learning journey is important and with all boys/all girls primary schools, their core values, school's guidance to the little ones are important, which more or less carve out the character.

As they progress to secondary schools, hormones change, puberty kicks in, children turn teenagers and having to face their sexuality. That's when we will get more worried and what not. Being open in sexuality/relationship education at home, during their puberty is more important then to seclude them to a single sex school to abstain and to focus on studies....... kinda of hard right? Especially with single sex, when they don't have the option of opposite sex, they explore within.... which is pretty true.

thus my choice, pri-same sex, sec-mix
      my $0.02 worth. ๐Ÿ™‚

@weethena, ๐Ÿ™‚ looking forward to orientation and probably then we can meet to introduce our boys. ๐Ÿ˜„

      Charis21,

Can I check with you what was the balloting situation like? How many applicants versus the vacancies?

      Cheers!
Praises to St. Gabs staffs for Providing a very thorough session of balloting exercise. Probably also the oversubscribed rate is not very high, it's 41 seats for 66 children. The admin staff will go through the children names with corresponding ballot ID no., and sgp citizens will get 2 ballot slips and PR 1 slip. All slips are displayed on overhead projector to show that they are all accounted for. After which, it will be fold and put in the transparent \"big fish tank\". Ballot starts and they will call up volunteer parent to pick the ballot ticket, when child's named called, the school staff will ask the parent of the successful balloted child's ID no. to pick up the next ballot slip. All picked slip will be stamped with MOE stamp and ballot ID no. be written on the paper with running serial no. of 41 seats.

Seriously nerve wrecking, even though I've experienced this before in 2000, where I was in the position to stand in for balloting in Rosyth, for my nephew who was away in the US then.

Hi, after the nerve wrecking phase 2C yesterday, my boy is going to SGPS in 2012. ๐Ÿ˜‚

Really happy for him as his 2 of his best friends from childcare are going to the same school.

Hope that through this Forum, we can share pointers and help the children adjust to the school system well.
