Hi, Janet,
Sorry to hear that. Pls encourage your son to accept what HE has planned for him. In my working life, I have witnessed enough cases of success which does not commensurate with qualifications. If you asked me, what I think constitute to the SUCCESS of a person is really the attitude. This is the ONE that can make or break a person. Qualification is just a piece of paper and I believe there are more than one path to achieve this. Please dun take it too hard and stay positive. Take care !

Parents, I need some help. Presently i'm putting up at Pasir ris and will be shifting to Sengkang next year. DD was posted to Nan Chiau (walking distance), But successfully appealed to St. Nick. Now Im worried my girl will be tired after cca. If you are in my shoe, which school will you choose?
In my opinion and having spoke to many including the student counselors, distance is v impt as the secondary school hours are really long. nan Chiau high is an equally good school. Do think v carefully. Unless you or your child is exceptionally fond of a particular school, I suggest you do give due n serious thoughts to the distance. I strongly believe if a child shines, she will shine anywhere. Something I took six years to understand. All the best to your ultimate choice. -

Personally, I think it's important to strategise when making that 6 choices.pirated:
Yeah, you're right, Fried chicken and civic6228. Logically people would put the school they want higher up on the list than the other way round.
People always said, put your dream school as number one choice, regardless how far off from the cut off point, the number six choice should be the one sure to get in and don't mind to go one
We came across parents who put top schools in their top 3 choices (that is like 25-30 marks off). Then the 4th is like 10 marks off, 5th is like 3-4 marks off while the 6th choice is below tscore and somewhere they don't wish to go. Maybe the parent thinks that MOE will definitely post them to one of their 5 preferred choices??? But unfortunately the child was posted to the 6th choice. In situations like that, it makes appealing tough too.
Still feel that the 6 choices must be realistic. Eg. if the child only did 21X, will putting RI there help???? I thought it's a waste of choice. Maybe it would be good to put a \"stretch\" target school (eg. 5-8 points off historical tscore?)that is still realistic to appeal
I agreed. First 2 choices can be 5-10 marks higher. 3-4 choices should be closed to the child t-score followed by last 2 choices at least 5 marks below. -

Thanks. Best wishes to all.CNS:
be prepared for questions like how do you know about our school, what you dun like about your posted school, and you did not place our school as your first choice, why not go to the school of your first choice etc... Good luck to all. It has been an nerve wrecking month that I am glad that it has come to a closure with gal successfully appealed to her first choice school. All the best to all who are still waiting. Pray hard and may your dream comes true. What I gather from this appeal process is generally there are vacancy. Is a matter of what the school is willing to do. I am just glad that gal got into a school with heart, a school who bothers to come back to parents fast and understand the agony of waiting.
:congrats: on your dd's successful appeal to her dream school! -

RE: Appeal Secondary One Posting
Can experienced parents advised how long they would usually need to wait after the interview? Few years back, my good friend daughter went for the interview and was offered on the spot. Looking at the comments here, it seems not the case now.kindly advise.
