As parents, do we have any hobbies we still pursue? Just thinking out loud, I think kids will look to their parents for cues on developing hobbies, and the best case scenario is we want them to develop good hobbies. But if we don't have any hobbies or interests that we pursue, and spend all our time on our phones/netflix, that will likely leave an impression on them as well..

Hi sandraisies, I am looking for a piano teacher for my 7 yr old boy. He has high functioning ASD... Can you PM me your teacher's contact? Do u see positive results?
Your story is so encouraging and I totally agree with you! Our children just need our guidance
I do the same for my son, he was also diagnosed with autism and husband and I decided to send him to regular kindergarten and EIPIC. And like all kiasuparents, we started him on sports classes and recently piano lessons. Even though he is autistic, his life should not just be therapy after therapy after therapy.. There has to be some positive fun, and so we enrolled him for enrichment classes
Some may say that any extra time should be spent on therapy.. but I think guiding my son towards sports and music helps to build a more wholesome and enriching life -
RE: All About Choosing and Buying Pianos
My friend’s son was using a Casio digital piano, in less than a year some of the keys broke. The keys started sinking in and totally cannot play. Heard that it can be fixed but there’s no guarantee that it won’t happen again in the future. I have yet to experience this problem with my Yamaha.

RE: Upset with home math tutor
Oh dear sorry you had to go through that. My son had a teacher who behaved terribly too, always putting the blame on my son that he is a weak student etc. I told the teacher off and said if my son is strong academically, why would I still hire you?! Your job is to figure out why he is weak and help him improve, not embarrass my son and cause him to hate the subject even more… I fired him after 2 lessons. Gosh.

RE: SRS

I was planning on targeting 400k, withdrawing only 40k per year. Can you share why your target is 800k instead of 400k (0 tax)? Hope to expand my knowledge. Thks.
How time flies! It has been 5 years since I embark on the SRS journey. I have been contributing faithfully to the maximum allowable limit every year. Not it is even easier as we can contribute to SRS using internet fund transfer. I have also been using the fund to invest it myself in the SGX equities market. My wife has followed suit shortly after I told her to open SRS account as well. Since then, in the short 5 years (4 years for her), we have saved slightly more than 10k in taxes alone. We have been blessed too in our investment choices and suffice to say we are happy with the returns.HVR:
Have been reading up on SRS of late. Many interesting and differing views and as expected, some said SRS is good and some said no.
If i contribute around 10k, i can save close to 1k per year on tax and I will save more than 10k by the time I retire. My SRS saving will also have more than 100k by then. I am risk averse and I think 1k return for every 10k is a cool 10% and it's a good deal.
Finally decided to go for it. Just opened the account last month and deposited the cheque last week!
We do not mind if we have to pay a bit of taxes if we manage to accumulate such amount that it will attracts tax at the time of our SRS withdrawal. In any case, first 400K is virtually tax free if we withdraw it over 10 years since only 50% is taxable. Even if one manages to accumulate 800k, one can withdraw it over 10 years at 80k per year and of which, 40k is taxable and the amount payable is $550 based on today's tax rate. Given time value of money, inflation and what's not, to pay $550 at a much later time is something acceptable. I would be extremely proud also to be able to continue contribute to the society by paying taxes at grand old age of 72!
