Anyone with experience with Writer’s Guild at Yishun? Can’t find any feedback on the forum. Does anyone know the fees for p6 Creative Writing? Contacted them but they are not willing to disclose prior to assessment with Ms Trinity. Am hesitant to fix an appointment as I feel that it is pointless to attend the assessment if the fees are beyond our expectations.

RE: Dunman High School (Junior High)
Seeking Dunmanians who had experienced DSA (Wushu).
1. For the trial selection, is it mandatory to perform 1 quanshu, 1 long weapon and 1 short weapon?
2. What are the chances of being successful in DSA (including being on WL) if candidate did not get individual top placings in the National School Games? (Assuming academic results are above 80%.)
3. Any history of acceptance with achievement of only #5-7 placings? -
RE: All About ABRSM Grades & Support
Thank you Dreamaurora and Waiyean for your advice, and Broadshouldersgal for sharing your teaching experience.
After listening to the comments, I think I may engage a separate teacher for aural training instead of extra time with current teacher. Not that the current teacher is no good, but I think she does not manage the time well…or rather, tend to lose track of time when teaching repertoires, and therefore last minute preparations for other segments.
Any recommendation for aural training teachers in the East or Central North? -
RE: All About ABRSM Grades & Support
On the subject of aural training, my child took her Grade 5 practical this year and she failed the aural component. We have not decided which grade and time of next exam, but definitely not next year. To prepare for the next grade exam, I am thinking that it may be necessary to have extra aural training lessons with her current teacher or another teacher. How intensive should I go about the aural lessons? Just to get an idea, what sort of aural training arrangement, ie. frequency and duration of aural training do you suggest for Gr 7 exam? Or any advise on how to prepare for it? Thanks.

RE: Wang Learning Centre 汪老師 - Discussion
Thank you parents for your responses.
phtthp:
Have you seen busy bee Zuowen content before ?
Maybe u can compare busy bee with wang Lao Shi
No. Busy Bee is too far for my consideration.tankee:
At the beginning for lower levels, the teachers provide some recommended / good starting, good proverbs & phrases that can be used and good conclusions. Lots of hand-holding. We were pleased when DS started writing similar good standards compo in school.
Lower levels refer to P3&4? How long into the program did you see your son's improvement in writing? half a yr? a yr? -
RE: The Write Connection - Discussion
To parents of any P3 and above child in TWC writing program for at least 1 yr, do you see improvement in your child’s compo (eg. SA2 vs SA1)? Do you feel its method of teaching relevant or effective for our pri sch children since it does not focus on sch’s compo format (aka picture based compo)?

RE: Wang Learning Centre 汪老師 - Discussion
I am considering Wang Laoshi’s P4 Chinese Compo class. I visited Wang Laoshi @ Eastgate and it seems rather commercialised, but its program is comprehensive.
I hope to get some information from existing students here.
How is a typical lesson conducted for the compo class? Is the teaching detailed and effective To include both oral and compo in 2 hr, is the teaching detailed and effective? What is the class size? In your opinion, do you think that Wang Laoshi’s forte is in its teaching of compo technique and oral skills? I am asking as Wang Laoshi seems to pride itself on producing prize-winners in chinese compo competitions.
Also, is there any teacher @ Eastgate that you will recommend to be particularly good in teaching compo and oral? -
RE: Jiang Education Centre - Discussion
For Jiang, is its superiority in its comprehension classes? I am asking this as many have complimented its high standards and its use of China textbook and reading material. At present, I am only considering enrolling my child into P4 compo and oral class. Is Jiang good in this area?
I will appreciate information on how a typical lesson is conducted (for the compo class). Also, opinion on the effectiveness on oral & compo writing skills and techniques delivered/taught - do you really see improvement in your compo and oral after lessons at the centre? -
RE: Comparing Chinese Enrichment (Primary/Preschool)
My child came back with another dismal grade for her chinese composition. She will be P4 next year. I am considering between Jiang Education and Wang Laoshi for chinese compo and oral. I have spoken to teachers from both centres but the information given to me was quite vague.
Even though I get to browse through sample material at Jiang, I am not sure if the material used are helpful. Also, I think that a teacher’s guidance is more important than the material itself, since the approach to teaching and learning can be very different. At Jiang, it appears that reading aloud and conversation is encouraged every lesson but not carried out in a formal, structured manner, and they may not complete a compo every lesson although they do writing every lesson, like short paragraphs. On the other hand, Wang seems to be very comprehensive in that they cover oral(reading, conversation and picture discussion) and do a compo every lesson.
Many people have complimented on the high standards for Jiang. Is this referring to its comprehension class’s material? I see that Wang’s students have been quite active in chinese composition competitions and won prizes. Is this an indication that Wang is a better choice for emphasis on compo?
I will like to hear from exisiting / past students from both centres how a typical lesson is conducted (for the compo class). Also, opinion on the effectiveness on oral & compo writing skills and techniques delivered/taught - do you really see improvement in your compo and oral after lessons at the centre?
TIA.
