Recommend Chung Cheng High School Yishun as the school is affiliated to NYJC which is also a single-digit admission JC.
Chung Cheng students enjoy 2-points bonus advantage at the end of their 4-5 years stay if they want to choose NYJC as their preferred choice of JC.
THink PHS is not affiliated to any JC.
Chung Cheng Yishun’s results are also better in the national exams.

RE: 2013 Request for Advice on Selecting Secondary School
Recommend CHung Cheng Yishun as facilities are better.
Both have same CoP but Chung Cheng Yishun stands out more as they seem more approachable and friendly.
Chung Cheng Yishun had Open House on 24 Nov and it was full of parents and students. The school had many teachers and students showing guests around.
Turned up at Yishun Town & was surprised they don’t seem to have Open House. Staff was trying to explain they had similar smaller scale events throughout the year - thought staff was condescending and implying the school doesn’t need an Open House as it seemed that theirs was an obvious choice. Thought it was a bit arrogant. Disappointed at the attitude. -
RE: Maris Stella High vs Chung Cheng High Yishun
Takes 10 min to walk from Khatib MRT station to back-gate of school, sheltered all the way.

RE: Chung Cheng High (Yishun)
It takes just 10 min to walk from Khatib MRT station to the back-gate of Chung Cheng Yishun. Back gate is opened in the morning so that staff and students have tw entrances to the school in the morning. They can also leave from the back-gate in the late afternoon as it can be self-opened by those who are in the school (although for safety reasons gate cannot be opened for outside in the afternoon.
It’s sheltered from MRT station to under the MRT track to covered Overhead Brisge and then HDB blocks to the school. -
RE: With 194... should DD choose Normal Acad or Express?
Choose a school that focuses on studies as well as discipline.
My son is in Chung Cheng Yishun.
Although he is in Express, I have also heard from my son the NA students in Chung Cheng Yishun behave no different from Express, mostly respectful.
But to get into Chung Cheng Yishun through Express with 194 quite impossible, maybe choose Chung Cheng Yishun Normal then study hard to get lateral transfer.
My son said his friend in Sec 2 Normal didn’t have to sit for additional exams and is transferred to Sec 3 Express next yr because he already did well in Sec 2 exams.
Most schools still want pupils to sit for additional papers & choose only 1-2 to be laterally transferred. -
RE: Chung Cheng High (Yishun)
Forgot to mention, Chung Cheng Yishun does not have a quota system when offering A Math & Pure Sciences from 2013 onwards. Heard it is because the Principal said it is more important to get students to have an edge if they can handle the subjects rather than to just think of getting excellent sch results by limiting number of students allowed to study A Math or Pure Sciences.
This is quite different from Yishun Town & Ahmad Ibrahim Sec.
I am quite delighted and grateful for such a forward-looking gesture.
At least I know Chung Cheng Yishun is always thinking of her students’ future first.
Important pt for parents to consider rather than to wait until 2 yrs later and ask for transfer. -
RE: Yishun Town Secondary School
You may want to check if school offers Pure Sciences & A Math to Sec 3 pupils & hob many classes?
My son is in Chung Cheng High Yishun - happy to note that the new Chung Cheng Yishun Principal is offering A Math to pupils who score at least 50% as heard he said it gives students an edge when they study in JC or Poly.
Also no quota system for Pure Sciences in Chung Cheng Yishun.
Guess between one sch that controls quality of results by limiting number of students offering A Math & Pure Sciences and another sch that allows more students to study A Math & Pure Sciences so that they have an advantage later on in life, I’ll choose Chung Cheng Yishun first.
Results are important but have to think ahead for your child too. -
RE: Secondary School Selection 2013
Chung Cheng Yishun obviously better than Kranji.
Longer history & like the Chinese Culture.
Good facilities & students very neat and smartly attired.
Has a very nice mini lake in Chung Cheng Yishun with many kois - my son loves to relax next to it every morning.
COP in 2013 was 234 which is equal to Xinmin & Yishun Town.
Studying hours up to 2-3pm but guess I have no issue with that since it means sch really takes care of my son who is studying in the sch.
CCAs very strong too.
Heard even Malaysian parents also send their children to Chung Cheng Yishun, strong endorsements even from parents of children who studied in Chinese Schs in Malaysia. -
RE: Secondary School Selection 2013
If 247, maybe stressful studying in Nan Hua.
Maybe choose Chung Cheng Yishun then your child will be among the top half of kids studying.
If continue to do well, may be offered more options and opportunities in time to come. -
RE: Secondary School Selection 2013
Hi Katnip22,
Best to choose Chung Cheng Yishun as 1st choice, not Orchid Park or Northbrooks which are very far off when it comes to results.
This yr, PSLE exam heard easier & as a result all T scores of all students went down. Even top PSLE heard is only 275, last yr 28x.
No harm trying choosing Chung Cheng Yishun 1st choice as I think definitely better than Orchid Park or Northbrooks (ask any Yishun ppl & you will definitely hear the same as well).
Chung Cheng Yishun heard more than 95% eligible for Poly.
Also Chung Cheng Yishun students get 2 bonus pts if choose to go NYJC.
Can also try Yishun Town 2nd choice - just take note it has no affiliation to any JC.
Best of luck.
I’m sure your kid has done his best.
