    • RE: Singapore Chinese Girls School (Secondary)

      phtthp\" post_id=\"2123727\" time=\"1701045682\" user_id=\"35251:

      When January 2024 comes, the audition process to join a Cca, is going to be extremely competitive. You need to list down a few Ccas, in the event due to strong competition amongst the new Sec 1 students, u failed to get your desired Cca.

      Example
      =======

      1)
      Suppose your 1st choice Cca is \"Dance\". So you attend their audition conducted, they assess you but in the end, failed to enter into Dance Cca.

      (SCGS is very good & reknown for her Dance Cca)

      2) suppose your 2nd choice Cca is \"Debate\". So, u attend their debate audition. Suppose also din get into Debate Cca, because Debate is also highly popular.

      Why popular?

      Debate training is a very important core life skill. If one can speak well with confidence, when u grow up, in your future job assignment(s), your boss, your future colleagues will tend to look at you differently. Compared to another worker who don't like to talk much, only a busy bee.

      3) Suppose your 3rd choice is a \"Uniform group\" Cca. The same thing will happen. People inside this Cca, will start to audition u. It doesn't mean that by default,

      just because
      u missed being selected for your first two Cca (Dancing + Debate), then,
      SCGS will automatically slot your daughter into a \"Uniform group\" Cca. No, it doesn't work like this.
      In fact,
      the Teachers in charge or the Selection panel team of \"Uniform group\" will highly favor those, who have chosen the particular Uniform group, as their 1st choice Cca, not as 3rd choice Cca. Anyway, they will still continue, proceed to audition your daughter, for the \"Uniform group\" Cca, assess whether she is suitable or not.

      Priority to join \"Uniform group\" Cca will go to those who opted for this Cca as their first choice, followed by the next group who have chosen Uniform group as their 2nd choice. So on and so forth.

      Why ?

      Because if u choose Uniform group as your 1st choice Cca, they know that the students' commitment, their heart Is there, for that particular Uniform group Cca, selected. Is the condition or the attititude of your heart, that counts.

      Summarise
      ==========

      in every Cca that u choose, there will always be people there inside, to audition your girl. So, there is no such thing as \"by default, any old how slot your girl into a Cca\".

      Why ?

      The school can't do this. What if your girl totally not interested in that particular Cca ? Join less than 3 months or joined halfway through, then come and tell the Teacher in charge that she want to bye bye, quit that Cca ? Will be wasting everybody's time. SCGS won't force a cow to drink water, if the cow is unwilling to drink, in the first case. The school won't force a Cca down your throat, if u don't even welcome nor want it.

      4) if failed to join Uniform group Cca, your daughter will still have to choose what other remaining balance Cca that is still left, she can possibly join. That is, those with vacancies, and still must attend audition.

      The entire Sec 1 audition process, to join a Cca, is very competitive. So, during this remaining left one whole month of December, since this week is the last week of November 2023, go to SCGS school website, take a good look at ... what are all the Ccas available, and start to list down your short listed Ccas, one by one.
      Thank you for your valuable inputs. I had already checked the CCAs on the SCGS website and noted that there are very low intakes for the CCAs that my daughter is interested in, therefore I sought to understand the process (first time for me). Uniformed groups have a much higher intake vs dance or other sports so there is more leeway there. Since CCA is compulsory, it looks like DD will just need to audition all the way until she gets into one. It is not just the matter of the attitude of heart, it's only natural for children (or adults for that matter) to have a preference or talent in one CCA over another. Just because you have 100% heart, doesn't mean that you will get selected. So DD will have no choice but to move through the priority list and do her best, but there is a possibility that she could end up in a CCA that she has little interest in.

    • RE: Cedar Girls Secondary School

      Hello, does anyone have DD who are part of the track and field CCA? I would like to understand what is the intake each year, and whether you really need to be a star athlete in order to qualify. DD has participated in NSG track and field for Primary, but did not win medals or such. Thank you!

    • RE: Singapore Chinese Girls School (Secondary)

      Hello, I have been browsing through the SCGS CCAs and it appears quite competitive in terms of the intake (some CCAs have less than 10 places per year). Could you share your experiences in getting into the CCA of choice? And if DD does not manage to pass the auditions or get selected, does it mean that the school will just allocate to a CCA with vacancies? (e.g. the uniformed groups). I am afraid that DD will end up in the CCA that she does not enjoy, due to the high competitiveness.

    • RE: How to coach and support your GEP child?

      Hello, would like to tap on GEP parents’ experience on math tuition. My DC needs some help - Is it sufficient to engage a tutor or centre for mainstream math? In the ideal scenario I’d want the tutor to have experience in teaching for GEP however I’m not sure if I can easily engage one. Thoughts appreciated!

      Hi everyone, I'm wondering if anyone would be willing to share their experience with their kids attending Ngee Ann primary? Is it a good school and how is the culture there? Are the teachers caring? Most of the feedback here is pretty old so any updates would be much appreciated 🙂 Thank you!
