So if the alumni paid for the membership which is not cheap as what I know and don’t get in. They may end 2C too?
Hmm… does this plan worth it? Or should plan properly in advance? -

Hi there,[quote]Hi Skywaywhisper
My DD told me that studying in SCGS will have high expenses excluded school fees. Is it true?
I am assuming high expenses meaning friend outings on the weekends? Correct me if I am wrong. If so, I would say it depends on what kind of friends your DD surrounds herself with. Definitely, there will be cliques who are slightly more well off than the others and weekend trips out with \"the group\" will cost you some extra money. But I really think this is a personal preference kind of thing... She can always choose to skip out on the trip. No one is going to judge her saying no. If you meant high expenses in terms of fitting in at SCGS (school bag, haircuts etc.) I don't think anyone really cares what kind of bag your DD is carrying. If it still bothers her about fitting in, sporting brands always do the trick. And no one can really tell if your haircut is a $10 or an exorbitant $233. Material things do not matter, neither do other people's opinions. There can be a 101 different opinions on what you should dress in, what kind of wallet you carry... I never cared for those kinds of baseless opinions. Kanken bags? Forget them! Squeaky new Nike/Adidas sneakers? While people suffer in those stiff things, I'm just going to run the 2.4km pain-free in my worn out but comfortable New balances. Do whatever makes you and your DD happy. That's what's most important.
I hope I answered your question
Feel free to ask more.

Hi Skywaywhisper
Hello there Rae4Kids,Rae4kids:
My dd is contemplating about scgs. Some questions i would like to ask:
1. Is the work load heavy? Is there homework every single day?
2. Is the school's main focus on chinese language? My dd wants to take dsa for english but is worried she cannot catch up with the rest of the students for chinese. She is average at chinese, not too bad but not the best.
3. What time does the school start?
4. Is the environment there good? Facilities, Other students and teachers etc.
To answer your questions briefly,
1. Not so much in secondary 1/2 but yes, hw is given out almost everyday for upper secondary. Workload increases throughout secondary school, as does CCA commitment.
2. No. English here in SC is usually innate. As for Chinese, I'm not sure about higher Chinese but I did normal Chinese and I felt that it was generally okay. My Chinese was also average.
3. School starts promptly at 7.25/7.30 AM for assembly (if I remember correctly). Actual classes start at 7.50 AM.
4. It's very homey. Teachers are very helpful. I for one, had first hand experience with caring teachers. If your DD is not from SC primary, she may feel slightly out for the first few days or so but as the weeks go by, new cliques will form. I wouldn't be too worried about making friends straight off the bat! Facilities are great. Many places are air conditioned (KA, LT, Shaw Hall and special rooms to name a few)
Hope that helped! Feel free to PM me if you have other questions.
Cheers!
