Hi chickenpox,
I wasn't aware that AIS has gifted program, can I check with u how do u apply for the gifted program? Show them your DD's IQ report or they have their internal assessment? Do they have the gifted program for their early years education as well? Thanks![/quote]
Hi Popcorn
No worries. Yes we did because I really cannot imagine my DD going into the mainstream. I had enough of tea invitations from teachers already! LOL! Saw one of the posting from one parent so I think I may as well highlight to you on some points.
AIS does not charge any internal assessment and all the documents sent to MOE on our behalf. I did not pay anything for all the correspondences, school visit and interview with the junior head. Please also take note that AIS will apply the enrolment on our behalf because that's the rule. It is just like if we are to withdraw our child from the local school into overseas school, we do not need to inform MOE just write a letter to the relevant school will do. Hope all these help and try to get the updated info because what I mentioned here may be 'outdated' because afterall it has been a year since we last liaise with AIS. Please also note that AIS has been very professional and will not reveal so many insider info. I tried to ask questions like how many local s'poreans are there and they turned me down saying its confidential.
Good Luck to you!

Hi chickenpox,chickenpox:
That must be such a sigh of relief.
agree that gifted kids also have their issues. Luckily my boy's passion is in chemistry and astronomy which isn't taught in primary school. He also walked around in class but got better over the years. Wait till the gep assessment. Hopefully she will be transferred to gep class and perhaps find something more challenging to do.
How old is your boy? I brought my DD to Melbourne after MOE rejected our application into AIS which they offered the gifted program for her.

Hi Popcorn
I didnt know AIS offers gifted program and didnt apply for one when I enrolled DD as my only intention was \"I just want angmoh teachers-mentality\". I provided them the IQ reports and yes they do have their internal assessment but we didn't manage to do it because MOE rejected our application and AIS withdrawn the whole application process. They do have gifted program for those preschoolers if I'm not wrong. Just to let you know if you and your spouse are Singaporeans most likely the application will end up like ours. -

Yes I did and heaved a sigh of relief when the results are so positive. Can you imagine that kind of fear that I went thru since I put DD in the childcare when she was 18mths, changing from one CC to another thinking that I can find the right teacher who can 'put up' with her nonsense? I didn't have the courage to have her tested till she was due for P1 registration. I know that she cannot make it to the mainstream because local teachers are not trained and do not have time for kids like her. Other than complaining to me that she is \"naughty\" they have no other avenue for her to learn. My DD is not that type who will quietly thru the lessons learning basic addition and subtraction when she already knows her multiplication and division and this is a BIG headache when she goes P1.chickenpox:
I have a gifted Miss 7 and who has behavioral issues that teachers couldn't handle and had been labeling her as \"naughty\" and even asked me to send her for diagnostic if she was a ADHD when she was in her kindy. The fact was she was simply bored with the class and tend to move around a lot during lessons. So I think if you have a tendency to suspect your child is a ADHD perhaps its a sign of giftedness!
So did you get her tested for ADHD and got back the giftedness verdict? -

RE: All About International Schools
Hi florastreet, I had spoken to the school and surprising there are locals in the int’l school. Just that the school will not reveal on what basis those kids are able to get the approval from MOE.

RE: All About International Schools
Thanks sleepy for your reply. I do not think they will allow my DD to skip level but i’m thinking if its possible for my dd to have priority admission to a GEP school. How old is your dd?

RE: All About International Schools
I have intend to put my DD in the international school gifted programme but was rejected by MOE even the int’l school has already accepted my DD’s enrolment. MOE wanted my DD to wait till P3 to sit for the GEP exams and go for GEP Programme in P4 even we had submitted them her IQ report and the fact that she is a Mensa member. Anybody any idea what other alternatives I can take as I am afraid normal stream school is unable to nurture her full potential and keep her challenged. Thanks in advance.
