      Hi chien6,

I've to admit the kindy wasn't at the top of my list of preferred schools as it's rather run down but I chose it in the end. My greatest fear is my children growing up as nerds and getting bored at school thinking they already know everything. I do hope dd will enjoy attending the school!
      Yes PP

The school going into the last 2 years of lease there do look less impressive than the Eton or Monti...

But please try to talk to the teachers there.. To me they are more important than the aesthetics of the school..

Did you manage to walk around and check out the school compound?

      Hi chien6

I'm aware of the lease expiring in Dec 2016. My child's not affected as she will be graduating end 2016 anyway. I had considered several other reputable kindies and childcare centres too but finally decided to enrol her in SJCK Harding.
That's great... From my personal experience the academic curriculum though may not be the toughest around it is more centered around the love of learning and desire to pursue knowledge.

The after school activities are fun though not cheap.. They also have school bus services for these activities...

Hi, Parents whose child is studying or has studied at the Harding Rd branch.

I'm keen on registering my would-be K1 child in St James as it seems spacious, great for active kids and heard reviews about its caring teachers. Can you please share with me whether the English and Chinese curriculums are good and prepare the children well for Primary 1? for example is there a structured phonics and reading program within the school curriculum? I don't expect the kindy to be academically superb and churning out lists of difficult spelling words and training kids to master hanyu pinyin but does it at least ensure the children are learning things appropriate for their age group in the Singapore context?

I've also noted that there are many interesting enrichment programs available in the afternoons. Are they good? Can you please share your experiences?

      Thanks very much.

      Hi PP

Wonder if you are aware that the lease for the school site at Harding is only till December 2016... That have acquired the site at Gilstead , the former Gracefield Kindergarten ..

I want to find out from you all ,, from bus stop to sch is it a long walk ? Cover by shelter ?

      Hi sunflower

My kids are in NYPS and my girl maybe same class as yours next year..

There is no shelter all the way from either Farrer Road or Bukit Timah side. Farrer MRT is about 10minutes walk to NYPS but no shelter too..

Have you checked the school bus operator?

      chien6,
not yet ! mmm actually not intention to take sch bus le !

where are u staying ? I'm Bishan.[/quote]We're in Tanglin unfortunately..

You should try taking the bus to see the actual travel time. It may be longer than taking the school bus...

For those parents who decided not to allow their children join the gep program or their kids not keen to leave their old friends etc etc...

Why do you guys even bothered to go for Round 2 of the exercise?

I think it is extremely unfair for those kids and parents who see a lot of positives in the program and depriving them of an opportunity...

My daughter was keen to join the program after learning it from her cousins who graduated from it and I'm thankful she got it. But there are many who cried cos they didn't....

      congrats.

umm supposedly that is not the case. geb says they take in all kids who qualify. there is no reserve, no quota. so kids who dun accept are not depriving other kids of spaces.

to those kids who accept, and parents, it is going to be fun ride. unnerving at times but teachers are great and always there to help. enjoying your learning! !!

Of cos there is a quota..

And yes there is no wait list nor reserve..

Usually the top 1% or so will be selected.. If there were 50 kids who already decided not to join the program were to withdraw from round 2, do you not think other 30-50 kids could have been selected?

I hope my post would serve to remind future batches of parents and children to consider carefully first before participating in round 2.. I witnessed some crying kids today n after round 1.. It's sad...
