My recommendation is to avoid Triple Science + Higher Art.
Triple Science combi already minimally implies the following subjects:
English
Mother Tongue
E Math
A Math
SS/Humanities Elective
Pure Physics
Pure Chemistry
Pure Biology
That is already a whopping 8 subjects. 3 pure sciences + 2 math is already very time consuming (assuming you are hoping your child excels in all of them). Higher Art is a coursework subject and requires a lot of time after school to complete their submission. Coupled with the huge amount of homework for the other subjects + CCA (taking up leadership positions in Sec 3) + rest time (don’t want to go crazy!), unless your child is a very gifted student, she might end up sleep-deprived and stressed out.

Hi young one. I'm not a parent but I am a teacher who has spoken to many students and their parents with similar issues. First, rest assured that this is a very common occurrence and there are probably many other students out there going through this, especially since you are transitioning from primary school (more control by parents) to secondary school (more freedom wanted by students).
Hello, I am currently a sec 1 student and i want to ask the opinions of parents here. I hate the way my parents are controlling my life. Every day when I reach home, I am forced inside my study room to complete a whole list of homework from assessment books that my parents have assigned for me. My phone is placed outside in the living room and obviously after long hours of studying, I need to have a break right? But I'm not even allowed to leave the room to check my phone for a few minutes. Even when I just open my door, my parents would be like \"进去 lah\", \"go in and concentrate\"..... I really cannot take it anymore. Do they think I am some kind of robot???? Studying up to 10 hours a day, which is even more than some ppl in secondary school or JC!!! I am soooo frustrated, why do I have to live like this!!! Parents here, do you do this to your children too??? Can someone talk some sense into them i feel like dying every day
I think the best way to go about this issue is to sit down and have a good talk with your parents (in a calm manner). Let them know that you would like to have a serious talk (e.g. \"Mum, Dad, could I speak to you about something serious? Would you have the time to listen to me?\"). That will start the tone and your parents won't dismiss you as saying something nonsensical.
Don't start the conversation by offloading all your troubles because it will seem like you are attacking them. Always start by thanking them for their concern (e.g. \"I'm very thankful for the care you have shown for me. I just wanted to share a little bit about my thoughts and feelings\").
Share your troubles with them but ensure that it doesn't sound like you are blaming them. Try to propose an arrangement with your parents and put in place a time frame for it (e.g. Could I have the freedom to plan my learning for one term and let's agree on the grades I need to get to show that I am managing well. If I do not meet the goals then that means I need your help in setting boundaries for me). Of course if at the end of the term you don't meet the goals then you have to accept that perhaps you were a little too lax on yourself. Sometimes the first sign of maturity is acknowledging that you aren't mature enough to handle yourself and need some help with it!
At the end of the day, always remember to preserve your relationship at home. Your parents did not attend courses on parenting and neither are they experts on the education system you are going through. They might not be right but they sure do love you! -

This year onwards MOE uses the AL system so they need AL 21-22 to be in the range for which they can choose between Express or NA.
Please enlighten me here... out of touch with the secondary school system since my own...
Qn1) If a student gets eg. 240, it's an Express for sure and there is no option for student to choose normal, right?
Qn2) If student gets 180, it's Normal for sure, right?
Qn3) What is range for those who can choose Express or Normal ( somewhere around 188 to 200)???
