Both of you are creating havoc in here. People reading these forum can see both of you are out to debate pertaining to any NYJC stuff.

Can both of you don’t be afraid potential students will be sway after reading the formation given here.
matured parents and even students have the clear mind to be able to decide which JC to choose.
Both of you please dont be scare they choose wrongly and get cheated into a JC not worth.
Parents and students can go Open House, find out from seniors etc.

We will definitely do so. But earlier on, Quinine mentioned something about its culture. Having graduated from nyjc, I would like to hear from her. Your impression is not-chinese but you are still very new to nyjc and I believe yourDC hasn't exposed to the culture yet.
Based on the value-added charts shown in the link I posted earlier, something is amissed. .
Apparently, the P knew the question would be asked during the Talk so he had already prepared it on hand.
Perhaps you are a parent of a student in the jc now so you are able to embrace the P but I choose to say objective until further clarifications.

For pt (7), the P didn't manage to hold 10 fingers in the pond out of every 100...

With regards to Quinine's comment that cop of njc goes down very quickly each year, may I ask what is nyjc parents and pupils' opinion of the discussion in this link, particularly about the credibility of the value-added award which the P claimed that nyjc is ranked no. 1 among all the JCs when the top-tier jcs (including tjc and acjc) did not seem to be participating in it. I am somewhat disturbed by it.

I do not know the % of retention rate, sorry. From what I know, its a 2 figures num... not many.
Regard the quote ' fingers', means the college will help all students even those weakest ones ( where 1 can see only 1 finger while almost whole body parts submerge in water) and save them all.
As for the value added award, all jcs like TJC, ACJC are involved.
Don't worry about comments u read elsewhere...people can say what they want.
NYJC monitors the academic progress of its students very closely.

I guess the quality improves with time. If you look at the stats of COP between 2005 and 2014, you will see that NYJC is the only school that the COP goes down very quickly each year. For the past 3 years, it was 8/8, 7/8 then 7/7 for Sci/Art. Of course the academic performance is very much dependent on the students, so thats why academic performance improve every year (most recent (2014) batch did exceptionally well, with around 2/3 students getting A for maths which is conveniently the standard of top JCs). Culture I would say that it is rather warm but a bit chinese-y (I mean eventually it's nanyang). Teachers are great!!! but it varies by subject as well. NY Chemistry and Maths department teachers are very very driven and others are good as well (although honestly speaking there are exceptions - everywhere - but I think there's very few exceptions here compared to my sec sch (of course i have never been to other jcs)).

You mentioned earlier that nyjc principal did not reveal the names of other jcs when he showed the flow chart of jc ranking on the value-added issue. How do you conclude that tjc did not meet moe’s expectation and thus was not awarded value-added in 2014? Do you know which jc is ranked 2nd, 3rd, so on and so forth?

Wish to add on:
It was parents’ request to get the P to reveal some info about NYJC Year 2014 results as its web site has no information.
P didn’t purposely show the parents.

Indeed, improvement or deterioration of a JC's cop does not reflect its A-level performances. I am convinced that it is due to many other factors such as herd mentality and its physical environment. Lack of marketing tactics by leaders is one. However, these are jcs and not profit making centres. I applaud leaders who are less scheming and less aggressive in promoting their jcs. It was parents' request to ask the Principal to reveal some info about NYJC's year 2014 A level results. That's why the flow chart was shown to parents. Not purposely by the Principal.

Eg, year 2013 TJC cop was 7. So moe will measure with cop of 7 pointer, this JC should churn out certain num of Distinction Holders in A level exam, but the actual number produced didnt meet or exceed the MOE value-added figures, so TJC was not awarded the value added award in that year. But that doesn't mean TJC didn't do well...please don't misunderstand me. TJC is still a gd JC.

Parents would like to know how a JC can our kids succeed in their studies so by mentioning this value addrd award doesnt mean its a dishonest act by Principal, it just show the civic tutors go all the way to help a student with 9 pointer to get a much better A level result at end of 2 years.

Its ok that parents don't see this award as meaningful and not true reflection of a JC's worth.
