I spoke to a staff in CHIJ Kellock, and she said that we could always visit the school compound, but would be limited to \"touring\" the ground floor of the school and not anywhere else. I suppose the performance you mentioned was by invitation only. Are you considering CHIJ Kellock, too? My daughter's childcare teacher has a daughter in CHIJ Kellock (P1) currently. If you want to find out more about the school, maybe you can let me have your questions and I will try to \"fish\" something from her.

My understanding about RM is the same as you. I thought, as KS parents, more would opt to be PV.

So, are you still 50:50 in your choice between RM and RV?

For those who are considering Blangah Rise, they do not organise open house.

qms, CHIJ Kellock was my initial choice some months ago, but recently, I decided on co-education. The 1st school that came to my mind then was RM, as it's near my place n have good PSLE results. But since I can be in phase 2A2 for RV, I considered RV as well.

Just called Radin Mas - confirm no open hse and they'll be in single session comes yr 2013/2014.....

Titank, heard from my colleagues that the MOE mandates all primary schools to go single session by year 2012. But by that time, our children will be in Primary 3.


I’d called RM up 2 months ago regarding single session and the staff’s reply was something like ‘Not so soon, can’t be ready by next year’. For RM, 1st 2 years will be in PM session. From Pr3 onwards, it’s AM session.

For RV, only the 1st year is in PM session…

Never get a chance to wander further in RM as the security guard would come after u if u attempt to go to classroom area without a good reason. So not sure how the classroom environment is like…

Really would like to know if RV has many expat kids, being in a private estate neighbourhood.

Last year, CHIJ (Kellock) had some kind of open house but it was in the evening - a performance put up by their students. I had the invitation flyer but can’t recall if it’s from my mailbox or from some other sources. Missed it as my kids fell sick on that day…

Actually last year during this time , I went to RM and I was going to register for PV then. But I changed my mind after I asked the staff if anyone staying within 1 km needs to ballot for the past few years & she said no.

Ummm… talking about open house. Anybody has any open house dates coming for RM, RV, CHIJ(Kellock), Zhangde, Gan Eng Seng ?

Agree that for RVPS, there is no proper shelter walkpaths. Actually RV previously was a Chinese school. It merged with other non-Chinese schools (I was from 1 of them) to become RVPS.

My kids are not strong in Chinese, as we tend to converse in English at home.

Brought my kids to view both schools to see which school they prefer, but they're indifferent !! :roll:

Not sure if RVPS is considered a neighbourhood school or not… but I guess its popularity is also helped by RV High (which I understand they are not affiliated)…

Dropped by RVPS this morning & found the school compound really new & not as remote as I had imagined though have to walk some distance out to the main road to the bus stop.

Somehow some people that I talked to equate the standard of RVPS to RGPS, some even thought RVPS is a SAP school.

But I also hope not to stress my children too much in a school that is too competitive since it's their 1st step to the formal education path.

For those choosing between RV & RM, care to share your choice rite now ? For me still 50-50...

My friend has been encouraging me to send my kids to River Valley, even though her sons are in Radin Mas. She sent her sons to Radin Mas out of convenience. She used her parents' address to register her eldest son (grandparents as caregiver), and the second one just naturally went to Radin Mas.

I visited Radin Mas, and yes, agree with you that the school premise is really old.

qms, did your fren mention any other reason why RV is being preferred, and not RM (other than academic performance) ?

I have a friend whose sons are in Radin Mas (Pri 1 & 6), but she seems to think that River Valley is a much better school than Radin Mas, in terms of academic performance and environment.

By the way, how far is River Valley from your house, since Radin Mas is within 1 km from where you stay?

qms, RV is more than 2 km from my house. So definitely have to depend on school bus. From stats published so far. RM doesn't seem too bad in academic performance ..... Environment else, yes, I also agree school is too old....

Is RM easily accessible by bus?

RM is next to the road and accessible by bus.
