Kokomommy:Kokomommy:
My DS score 247 +2 got into CHS express
His first choice is ACSI, should i appeal or just go to CHS? I know he is quite upset with this result but he don't want to upset me so he said no need to appeal, he will do well in this school and go to IP at sec 3. I should feel happy with what he said to me but i feel so sorry for him.
A lot of my friends said CHS is a good school as well, asked me just stick to it.
So now i don't know whether want to appeal for him or not.
Please advise. Thank you very much
You should appeal if you think you have reasons to do so. Not because you find it troublesome or let nature takes its course! After the deadline, your choices are gone almost forever and you should teach your son to make better choices in life than not not exercising your choices at all.
You may consider these factors :
Tangible
1) Fees
2) Distance
Intangible
1) Culture - whether your son is suitable for a very traditional chinese school (as comparing to other school like SJI (shifting to Bishan), Victoria, Bt Panjang High etc) If he does not like chinese, no point going CHS.
2) CCA in the 2 schools.
With these issues, i hope you can decide better. Lastly, if the fees is ACSI is too steep and CHS is too far/not convenient, then try another school.
Hope the above helps.
Oops! Correction, i should say CHS, as compared to ASCI ,is a school with strong focus in Chinese. And if he does not like Chinese or not strong in MT/Chinese, then do not go. I personally have exp that if a boy is not strong in Chinese, he will not be place in the \"better\" classes and will not outshine those stronger in Chinese or those from PRC...
Hi Kokomommy, it is not true that the boys in CHS are placed in better classes only if they are strong in Chinese. For my ds's cohort 2 yrs ago, the boys were placed in classes according to their psle t-scores. There was indeed a class for those who are strong in Chinese, and there were many Chinese nationals in that class. But that is not the best class for that year.
